Attendance For Purdue

On second thought now that the student section is twice the size, that 42-43k is possible.

Curious how the student section increased so much? Is there less apathetic fans or are there more students at SU?

I think there's way too much blue in the Ticketmaster map, and that's not even showing all the seats that I'm sure are unsold.

I don't see this game being much different. Not sure UVA on a Friday will be either (but it will be loud, like Liberty last year).

Best bet on cracking the lower to mid 40s would appear to be NC State if we're 4-1 or 5-0.

It'll be a Friday night decision for me and my pops.

Make sure you all put the game on your TV while you're at the game...Get those TV numbers up. ;)

It is hard to gauge. Louisville was 37,125. I would think we get more for this game. I think it will be over 40k but likely short of the 42-43k.

Heck there are still a lot of tickets to ND. That game might not sell out.

Our recent 42k+ games

2022 None 37,125 high thus far
2021 None 38,500 high (but covid restrictions hurt)
2020 NA
2019
50,250 Clemson
44,875 Pitt
42,875 BC
2018 42,750 Louisville

ND might end up like 2003, where they get about 48k, but don't sell out because they waited too long to release the single game tickets. By that time, both teams were clearly doing worse than their fanbases had hoped.

ND's uninspired 0-2 start isn't helping either. Might not be able to count on their fans to buy up what remains.

For this weekend, still need a walk up, and I don't know how much that happens in a noon game. I think about the same 37k. But hopefully more.

We will get a few 40+ by the end of the year and dare I say I’m pretty optimistic we’ll get a high 40’s by the end of the year

Some STH were asked to move so there were more student seats in the same general area. It didn’t double though.

I've heard from multiple people in casual conversation, saying stuff along the lines of "If we beat Purdue, I'm going to have to get tickets for Virginia Friday night."

So I disagree with your Virginia assessment...a win vs. Purdue and a (potential, small chance) national ranking would definitely get people to take notice. This is a huge game

I don't rea watch the local news anymore, but I feel like CNY Central and others are key in getting the casuals interested...if the team is covered and commentary reflects how big and important this game is, then they'll come. Anyone been watching that can say how the coverage has been? Hoping for some hype to be generated later in the week

I hope you're right. I'm probably a bit jaded, having seen this movie so many times.

2018's performance, which led to 2019's attendance, gives hope that people still pay attention.

But I think 2019 thru 2021 put people in a bit more of a show me more first mode. 2016 and 2017, while not great years, still provided a nice build up to 2018. Big home win each year. The fizzle after that hurt.

i know there were about 50 sitting up in our section during the UL game because they thought it was better than the 2nd level corner seating..

Adding in more years

2017 Clemson 42,500
2016 None 34,875 high
2015 43,000 LSU
2014 43,250 FSU
2013 49,000 Clemson

So in the ACC era we have hit 43,500 only 3x, and 42k only 8x. I think it is safe to say Purdue, UVA, Wagner will not reach that number. NC State with 2 weeks to hype and SU at 4+ Ws might be able to.

My daughter and I are flying up from Texas. I'm meeting up with Shrader's parents. No, I won't tell you where I'm sitting or what I look like so you can introduce yourself to them. lol

A win versus Purdue will put over 40K in the stands for a Friday night UVA game, IMO. This is the table setter and considering what the past 3 seasons have looked like I don't think the fanbase can be blamed. a look at the 2019 attendance is proof that the town will support the program if they win some games. I mean would be nice if we had some data on what attendance looked like for a solid 6-8 win program

Where you miss a Niko to really pump it up.

Seems back in the day Wayne and Dave would casually drop the upcoming game during broadcasts

Are there people who would actually do that? I find that super weird if so, but maybe that’s because I’m an introvert.

ND local fans will probably still buy tickets.. what you might not get is traveling ND fans
