Attendance For Purdue

SU should have a “Bring a Virgin Fan Night.” The possibilities are endless!
With 15,000 empty seats give every season ticket holder an extra ticket (or 2 ) voucher. Not a long term solution but a band aid until we get fans back. Out of 20,000 season ticket holders we might put an extra 5 k .

Adding in more years

2017 Clemson 42,500
2016 None 34,875 high
2015 43,000 LSU
2014 43,250 FSU
2013 49,000 Clemson

So in the ACC era we have hit 43,500 only 3x, and 42k only 8x. I think it is safe to say Purdue, UVA, Wagner will not reach that number. NC State with 2 weeks to hype and SU at 4+ Ws might be able to.

And going back further

2012 None 40,500 high
2011
45,250 WV
42,125 Rutgers
2010 42,125 BC
2009 48,500 Minny

2008 45,750 Penn State
2007 None 41,000 high
2006 None 41,875 high
2005
45,500 WV
42,500 Cincy

So since the Coach P era (over 16 seasons 2020 excluded) we have hit 44k only 7x. Two of those games were the first game for a new HC. And 3 of those games were a big name opponent (Clemson 2x, Penn State). So only Pitt in 2019 and WV in 2011 had "normal" games that reached 44k. We have only hit 46k 3x in those 16 seasons.

I think we are plenty safe to put in nice seating and reduce capacity to 44k when only 7 of our games in the last 17 seasons have had more than that amount.

ND local fans will probably still buy tickets.. what you might not get is traveling ND fans
I think he raises a logical point though; many ND fans from NYS tend to be front runners. Or at the very least, it’s like their third or fourth favorite team in sports overall. If ND isn’t doing well they may not bother. Not all of them of course, but a sizable number.

Anything above 35k actual fans would be a win IMO

I don't think we'll see above 40k+ fans until ND or FSU, assuming the team is still in good shape

It'll be a Friday night decision for me and my pops.

Make sure you all put the game on your TV while you're at the game...Get those TV numbers up. ;)
Hey it got a certain leech program an invite...

Student attendance will be interesting to watch. Freshmen have always turned out, particularly early in the year. Renewal rate has historically dropped precipitously for sophomores and fallen off a cliff from there. Last year we essentially had two full classes that had never attended games in the Dome with the sophomore class losing out due to covid. That certainly helped the turnout and was strengthened by the outstanding job Otto's Army leadership did to keep the group engaged. SU also instituted a four year student ticket program in 2019, essentially allowing an incoming freshman to pay for three years up front and get the fourth year free. Looks like the combination of those factors has been very successful as student tickets sold out this year at 5,000 and the additional single game seats that were made available for Louisville almost did as well.

do they offer some deal to kids who buy the 4 yr plan and then stay around and want to continue as STH?

I would wager Thursday/Friday the university will offer a student sweetheart deal to add to the headcount and hopefully get them enthusiastic enough if the team wins to get tickets for Virginia Friday. I bet we are close to 38k Sat.

I don’t know about today but when my son graduated 3 years ago they had a special deal for recent grads. Not sure about today because I heard the interest was very low.

I think this is what happened. They did have the special offer but not a lot of takers...

but did they have the buy 4 get 1 free plan back then.. if people stick with it for 4 yrs and stay in the area and the team is somewhat better trending the uptake might be better.. even if 10 people take a deal why not have one?

More than anything Syracuse needs a few years in a row of fun and successful football. People will come. Most of us had way more positive experiences when we were younger with SU football. There's allot of younger generation who have no sense of how awesome a great team, crowded dome and bowl games are like. We need to be a little patient.

There wasn’t a 4 year plan a few years ago. You could do a zero year plan and still get the recent grad deal.

yeah.. But i think if someone has committed to 4 yrs in college they should get a better deal than someone who didnt.. the goal is to get the students engaged,
