Babers Vs Fleck on ESPN 2 right now

stanford's defense was pretty bad in shafer's lone year out there. 91st in yards per play. better in scoring defense because they were 34th in turnovers (6th in fumbles - lucky) BRUTAL schedule though
you got me. I hadn't looked at his numbers recently and was just going along with prevailing wisdom. I knew that Michigan team was a disaster, but I knew much of that was RichRod foisting his system on Shafer. I didn't realize Stanford was that bad on D the year Shafer was there. I only remembered the crazy USC upset.

I appreciate the correction.

I agree. I was just going with the argument presented.

texascpa seems to be taking a measure of delight in tweaking people for wanting to hire a MAC head coach. I think most folks see a difference between hiring a MAC head coach who has shown success (something Syracuse has never done, as you pointed out) and hiring a successful MAC coordinator.

Look, I'm not taking delight in anything, I'm just pointing out how quickly some of us forget. Personally, I have never put restrictions or qualifiers on the type of coach SU should hire. I'm a fan of several different offenses and don't necessarily think one is better than another, if coached properly. We see success with the no-huddle spread (Baylor), the option (Navy) and psuedo-West Coast run oriented (Alabama). It comes down to coaching and players that fit the system. I love our QB and think he can be successful in Babers type of offense, but I do not believe we have the type of wide receivers to make it work. It will take more than one year to fix that, and are we willing to give him the 2-3 years to do.

But, more importantly, defense, as has always, rules the day in football. And we can all agree that our defense stinks this year. We've seen what good defenses can, but not always do, even when we've had poor offenses. I'm not advocating hiring another defensive minded coach, but I don't want defense becoming an after-thought.

this guy completes 69%, 4000 yards, 36 TD, 4 int in 10 games

LOOK AT HIM

He looks like he should be playing bass in a horrendous system of a down cover band. LISTEN TO MY DEMO PLEASE. This condom on my head and my beard will distract you from my baldness

What are we trying to do this year. INSTALL THIS OFFENSE FOR SATURDAY WHO CARES

Great question for HCSS call in show tonight -

"Coach after watching BG/WMU game last night how come we don't run either one of this types offense???

You genuinely believe defense rules the day in college football.

That's amazing.

Millhouse we don't have that kind of talent. Obviously Babers recruited him specifically for his system.

I think if Babers took a look at our offensive personnel he would be excited about working with ED throwing to Ish, Ben Lewis, Erv and one of AE or JC. Add in a large group of good young OL prospects and he would see the possibilities.

what kind of offense does BG run ? people act like they do so many different things than we do.. they ran mostly 1 back 4 wide, but the routes were not complex, they kept the D in man and then beat the DB's . most of the time it was 2-3 guys running fly and then one curl/slant under it.

they have a QB thats not a rookie and WRs that are better than ours, the Western Kid would be our #1 wr too.

I've seen Babers' name linked to Illinois and, to a lesser extent, Miami. The question is - are we a more appealing job than either of those schools? I think we trump Illinois, but Miami might be bigger competition for us if we're all competing for his services.

Yeah, that's the only difference.

ARE YOU NUTS!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Nothing you can do about that if that's the case. Who wouldn't want to live in Miami?

Yeah - they are being pulled towards a legacy hire or u-approved...

That's amazing.

We made our most recent bowl games because of good defense. Ohio St won the title on defense. Alabama beat LSU on defense. Seattle destroyed Denver a couple years ago in the Super Bowl. Denver had the most prolific offense in NFL history that year. And it was enough that Elway let offensive weapons go in order to bolster the defense. Yes, defense rules, whether it's NFL or college.

in what way? just because it worked doesnt mean it was super complex.
they mostly run 2x2 or 3x1, the QB for the most part had 4-5 secs to throw which gives the WR tons of time to rework the routes.

the 27 td run, 2x2 wide the MLB who has one thing to do runs outside and simple handoff up the middle.
the 24 td run, 3x1 wide the MLB who has one thing to do runs outside and simple handoff up the middle and the RB make the safety miss

the long td pass 3x1. the 1 WR beats the DB and just runs straight down the field.
the 2nd long td pass 3x1. the outside guy beats the db off the line and runs straight down the field.
the 3rd long td pass, the most complex of all. 3x2 inside slot runs by the db and scores.

if you want to say the 4wr-5wr set stresses the D and left them in single high, then yes, but the routes were not complex in the least, all the scores came on straight streak passes. the underneath guys often dont even run a route. they dont even bother with play action much of the time.

we have run this same route with Estime 7-8 times the last 3 weeks, he has gotten more PI calls than catches, he cant get by the DB and create and room for throws and he has more drops than catches. its the same pass we are throwing its just doesnt work for us. the throws are not that bad but there is little room for error.

we have 2 WR, lewis everyone complains is too slow and we dont even have a 4th-5th we want to put on the field most of the time. phillips has been put in these spots and drops the ball half the time our bounces it off his head.

if we had a clear #1 wr with deep play ability then move Ish and Estime down to the 2-3 WR and had phillips as the 4th i think you could run these sets thats makes lewis the under 5th guy. right now he is the running as the 3.

do we have a WR coming in next year better than lewis , cause thats what we need.

How many Big 12 are in the top 25?
