Bagley should get a "T"

Duke only had 4 players score and only 6 players took a shot - O’Connell came off the bench and took 1.

He obviously “plays favorites”, right? They not only lost the game, they also lost the ever important battle to spread minutes and shots around! Probably didn’t even give all his players a juice box or an ice cream cone after the game either!

You can’t play this game.
Duke hasn’t been below a 6 seed since 2006 and that is the only team since 1999 they have been below a 4 seed.

If you have the ACC POY and all first round draft picks go ahead and play a short rotation.
We don’t have that personnel and still JB typically plays a short rotation. This year he had no choice.

By all means if we get Bagley, Carter, Duval, Trent, and Allen don’t play a bench. However when you don’t play 8-9 so your guys don’t get worn down for March.

Hmm, think it goes the other way. Duke is not on probation - they have more depth than us and get better players at the top. They are more capable of going deep than us. They don’t. If it’s a strike on JB, it’s a strike on Coach K. Gotta be consistent.

So, we should give more minutes to players who aren't as good as our starters, who in turn aren't as good as the players they are playing against.

Players aren’t machines.
Your best players need rest.
Playing them 40 in the tournament fine.
However in a typical Syracuse year a December game against Buffalo your started should play high 20 or low 30 mpg.

We don’t need to create strawmans.
Our best players are typically never as good as Bagley or Carter.
We get a tier below.

If we get another Melo play him 40.
CJ Fair shouldn’t have to pay high 30 mpg or Trevor Cooney.

Cooney played more MPG in 2015 and 2016 than Brandon Triche did in 2013.
That shouldn’t happen.

That is hogwash. What were the minutes distribution during the season the last time we went to the FF.
Who should have played more this year
He should play guys that give us a better chance of losing, (Thorpe comes to mind, as does last year's Frank) just so everyone can get a participation trophy?

You make it sound like wanting a rotation of 6-10 that isn’t leaps and bounds worse than 1-5 crazy.

We don’t get the elite talent. We got twice in Melo and Waiters recently.

Our Syracuse 6-10 should be able to spell the starters and develop.

1988 Syracuse JB did this.
He had the future number 1 pick in the draft Derrick Coleman and he only played 32mpg.

That is perfect. He stays healthy and gets rest each game.

9 players got at least 14.5 mpg.

9 guys played 15+ mpg last year too, if we’re counting guys that didn’t play anywhere close to all the games. If Coleman and Chukwu were healthy all year, there’s no way Lydon averages 36
Mpg. Probably more like 32-33.

Gotta have quality bodies available.

I agree that Cooney was not the caliber of player that should be playing 35+ mpg, if the program is where it should be.

The teams of the 1980s and 1990s went deeper I am going thru all the years.
It changed a lot in 2004.
Since 2004 only really 2012 did we play 10 and it was 10.5 with MCW.

Today I think Coleman plays at least 36mpg and not the 32mpg he did in 1988.

We should be able to have depth that we can afford to play guys. Unless you have the Duke talent which is top end wanting a deeper rotation isn’t a lot to ask.

I mean people said the short rotation is why sanctions wouldn’t hurt as much.

I don’t think there’s any perfect set number. In 2012, we had that many good players that deserved PT and in many cases there wasn’t much difference between bench guys and starters.

In 2010, we played 7, but it was basically like 7 starters. The two guys that played off the bench were just as good as most of the starters and often closed games out.

In 2003, we mostly played 8 though there was a stretch where Pace was out of the rotation. To Boeheim’s credit he rode the hot hand well with Pace playing great in the tournament often at the expense of Duany’s minutes.

We haven’t really had good bench players recently. Boeheim doesn’t play guys that aren’t good, if he can help it.

That'd make him T-Bagley.....sorry, Greg

But our 6-10 ARE leaps and bounds worse, and consistently our 8-10 are not good enough to play real minutes against good teams. Additionally, our 1-5 are not, traditionally, strong enough to hid those guys.

Find me a Brower or Harried on the bench to take minutes from O'Shea.

Or an Earl Duncan to give the guards a rest. Heck, he might’ve been a starter the last couple years. When we’ve got guys that are pretty good and can come in without much drop off, they play a lot: soph. Scoop, Waiters, freshman Edelin, freshman and soph. Pace, soph. and Junior Rautins, etc.

Hopefully we can build some depth back in the program now that probation is over and maybe with more focus on it in our recruiting strategies(we can’t look at the Ennis’s as 4 year guys anymore)

I'm hoping next season we see the depth again.

3 guard rotation - Frankie, Carey, Hughes
Emergency guard - Washington
3 forward rotation - ThickBrisket, Baz, Marek
Emergency forward - Moyer
2 center rotation - Chukwu, Sidibe
Emergency center - Vald the Impaler

That can work.
