BC Postgame

Always practice self care and do what you must to stay sane as a fan.

But...

It really shows how far the program has fallen. Cuse as one of the weakest of all power 5 teams, just happy to edge out the other dregs. All but unthinkable only a few years ago.
Cant argue with that at all...
but its positive that we won and not lost. I see improvement~
Before these last 2 games I said to myself that it would be a huge positive if we could win the next 4...we are half way there.

Was at the game with a good view behind BC’s basket and those last 8 minutes were really fin to watch. That was the best defensive 5 on the team at one time. Intensity was outstanding and you could see the guys could taste it. I know we need Donnie to play when he’s back but we need him to be able to play in that defensive unit. Also thought Taylor played outstanding despite having to play with 4 fouls for a lot of the run. Glad Red left him in.
We could hear the chants of “Let’s go, Orange!” The SU away fans, as usual, did us proud. Thank you!

I did not for one minute think we were going to win. Well, actually, in the last two minutes it dawned on me that we could. JJ did such a great job and looked so happy! And Cuffe making those threes! That was so crucial to our win.

I noticed there was a good player on the BC team named Beadle. My friends and I enjoyed that. I am sorry because it means that my Beadle ancestors owned slaves. :( But he was doing quite well for himself in the game. And it was fun to mutter “Beadle!” A little like “Newman!”

It's water under the bridge at this point, but I really think we could have beaten ND and Georgetown with a healthy Starling and be a much more respectable 10-6. Oh well.
I agree, but we also could have lost some of the close games we won (Youngstown St, LeMoyne, Colgate). So we are probably right where we should be recordwise.

JJ is no doubt an all conference guard. He’s a poor man’s Tyus but he’s better from 3.

I’m not the biggest Red guy lately but I give him credit for the Carlos minutes. That takes guts after playing him like he was. He recognized the mistake.

I thought throughout that it was quite odd that a “Beadle“ was actually trying to do us harm. Maybe he his family changed their name. Maybe it was Drumph or Goebbels or something ugly like that, and they prettified it.

Really nice to see JJ doing nice things and seeming to enjoy himself.

Hope Freeman isn’t lost for the season, but I’d rather have him shut it down than play hurt the rest of the way, if that might possibly affect him long-term.

This was a difficult game to assess. I kept thinking, ‘We’re not doing horrible, stupid stuff on defense today,’ and then reminding myself that we were playing a pretty horrible team. Same on offense…. Good to get a win in the conference, but it’s tempered by the recognition of the context. But, whatever—a win on the road in January is something.

Lucas continues to surprise me, every time he hits a three. Each shot looks like he’s trying to avoid a shot clock violation, but they’re going in lately. I hope this is more of who he is and not a fluke. Some big ones from Cuffe, too. Building confidence.

Finally some understanding by Red of what Carlos’ role should have been long ago. He was brought in to be a reserve, and since we didn’t get a starter PG, the roster just shifts over, instead of elevating him. Seems to be working.

Hand probably would.

But SERIOUSLY-- next time I'm home, it's going to be cajun pasta and catfish.
I have a standing offer to compensate handsomely whomever on the board mails me a jar/shaker/whatever receptacle it is that houses Eddie Lampkin's proprietary dry rub he's been selling at the pop ups and now I assume his Big Fellas.

A few thoughts after sitting a few rows behind our bench.
-after Bell hit the side of the backboard and jogged back, complaining to the refs, Red basically threw Cuffe towards the scorers table. He tried to talk to Bell and Bell just blew right by him. For the rest of the game Bell sat slumped down in his chair. This has happened so many times you just have to wonder if Red has finally had enough.
-i’ve been going to Syracuse games at BC since the 90s and I don’t remember a game where the percentage of Syracuse fans was as high as today. We may have had more fans at certain games when we were obviously better but it felt like it was 8020 today. As you guys heard on TV the Let’s Go orange chant was outstanding.
-as disappointing as this season has been, it struck me how into this game the entire bench was with the exception of Bell. Donnie in particular was very engaged. The staff was all in. Red was pretty fired up, particularly after Carlos hit the three.
-today clearly demonstrated what everybody but apparently Red knew. There was never any reason to play Carlos the minutes he was getting.
-before and after the game, our guys were very accommodating to the fans who wanted autographs and pictures. We spent a couple minutes talking to Donnie and He comes across as a really nice kid. He wouldn’t say when he thinks he would be back and explained he didn’t know.

Thanks for sharing. I shared over the summer and into fall how JJ would take over as the PG. Red was trying to be fair to Carlos because he was always playing well in practice. But it wasn’t translating to the games. The 1st game JJ sat out due to injury was going to be the change of Carlos to the bench. I know injuries happen but that was worst case scenario. Carlos may play 7-12 minutes from here on out I think per game. Red is in tough situation to please everyone on the team with minutes but his job is to win and they have won 2 games without a great player but more importantly realizing how good JJ can be at the point like was discussed alll summer

Can't say I watched the game in its entirety. But it seems like there are SOME pieces there. It's a matter of the guys and Red putting it all together.

My expectations are pretty low for the rest of the year, but hopefully this year can build some sort of confidence going into next season
With the portal, no team can count on carrying over anything from one season to the next.

It's probably better for everyone for Bell to move on after the season. And I'm the Bell-iever.

It's just not working out and sometimes change is for the best.

Be that as it may, I think we would have won two of the games we lost if JJ had been there. Thought it at the time. 10-6 would look a lot different than 8-8. We would still not be good of course. But we would feel better about it.
I agree. Might be 3 more wins, and a little more hope. I’ve actually never seen the Cuse fanbase lose hope in my entire life. Last week there was no hope. Now there is.

He played off the bench, at Clemson last year - he’s a transfer to BC. I remembered his name from Clemson’s NCAA run last year and I apologize for never making the connection with your screen name. :(
