Belichick to UNC

For UNC's sake I hope they tell Bill to leave his coaching tree at home in his backyard.

Needless to say good hire. I mean you are not turning down a 8 time Super Bowl winner if you are mid tier acc team. Schedule just got harder next year.

Although CFB rly depending more and more on coordinator positions. He needs someone young there.

I think it's a bad hire, but it'll be interesting. Nobody in the NFL wants him for a reason, and if he does well he'll be back to the NFL in a year or two max. But I don't expect much, he's never coached at the college level and he's a scheme guy, not a guy who's going to coach up fundamentals or pound the recruiting trail.

feel like someone would want him in the NFL, I mean not sure what more he’d need to prove winning that much (yes I know Brady etc) Maybe he’s burned some bridges idk.

Hes 73, and now is jumping into the world of dealing with 19 year olds. This will be a short-lived experiment. Not a very forward looking hire by UNC.

He sure didn't have a all star coaching staff in his final years at Foxboro. I think this ends badly for all concerned
Our Wide Receivers coach came from that staff, Ross Douglas.

If it works out cool for UNC. My best guess is this blows up in his face. A 72-year old first-time college HC. He's not charismatic at all and if his only pitch is "I'm Bill Belchick" well...
This is true, but also consider what Jim Mora, a washed up P5 and NFL coach, has done at UConn, with all its severe disadvananges compared to UNC. BB will be able to outcoach most college coaches in games. Fran says Bill O'Brien outcoached him this year.

As for player personnel, it's not his strong suit. He loves taking lacrosse players or MAC QBs and playing them at another position. And he was severely criticized for years for not being able to draft a decent WR. Remember it was the late Patriots quarterbacks coach Dick Rehbein who insisted the Patriots draft Tom Brady. Brady wasn't even the full time starter at Michigan his SR year. Not a single NFL team wanted him through 6 rounds.

In the end, I just hope SU can beat UNC.

It's a strange short sighted hire. But that's what you get when you put a Bubba in charge.

Big Belichick fan. He’s as good as it got.

This won’t work at UNC. He’s an old man and stubborn. These things will be hard to deal with. By year 3 and a few 8-5 seasons it’ll become less fun for him.

This is good for Syracuse because he will give the ACC legitimacy.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. It’s really the exact opposite of what we did last year.

Bill Belichick is the bizzaro Fran Brown.

All the press UNC and BB is getting is going to make them very good. Good for the ACC, bad for Cuse in short term with nil and ability to get transfers. Kids will take the chance to go there first.

Is it now being reported that it's 5 years at 10 million per? And they offered the hoop kid they lost to BYU 5 million? UNC ain't playing around with the $.

He's under 500 without Brady. He's ancient. He's going to outsource recruiting to his GM. But he'll get the ACC on ABC next year. So that's good.

I don't see 6-6 in UNC's future. Either he'll knock it out or he'll be an abject disaster that will be an albatross around their neck for a decade.

This will work for UNC. BB isn't going to be recruiting 17 year olds, he will take them if his assistants bring them in, but he will be dealing with agents and pulling starters out of the portal. UNC donors will put up the money for NIL and BB has a significant network of business execs from his time at NE. Those guys will also want him to succeed and provide funds for his players. I wouldn't be shocked if they are in playoff next season. I wouldn't be shocked if he has $20M+ in NIL funds to use for his players.

A $20m NIL budget is irrelevant if you bring in a DJU to be your QB.

Come to UNC, develop in an NFL lite environment to prepare for the NFL, and be coached by a legend?

Pretty good pitch at least for the next couple of years. I'm intrigued to see how it works out.

Also, anything to make the ACC look like a stronger conference is a good thing IMO.
