That's a best case scenario. I am hopefully that he can play good enough defense to be able to remain out on the floor without fouling out, and giving us some presence on the boards. I know the offensive skill is there, but he can't be a guy who makes us trade buckets. Our team is built on having a good zone.

We have started or seen the following freshman get big minutes(30 Plus) in the past 5-6 years and Benny is rated higher than all of them:

Girard
Oshae Brissett
Tyus Battle
Tyler Lydon
Malachi Richardson

There's zero reason to think he won't be able to stay on the floor. He will be our best defensive forward.

I'm hoping you're right. If our best defensive forward sits in order to allow Jimmy to get the ball over half court, I'm not going to be pleased.

I hope you are right but I don’t believe Benny will average 30 MPG.

I just don’t believe Jimmy and Swider won’t get mid 20 MPG.

Edwards is the guy who needs 30 MPG for the defense.

Is JB going to play Jimmy or Swider at the 5 just to get each more minutes? Or I think sit the freshman more so he can potentially keep him a second year.

Theres 80 minutes at forward. At worst everyone will be in the high 20’s. I want Edwards to play 30 too, but we will see if he’s able to based on his history of foul trouble.

And if reports are true that Sid still has potato knee then it’s highly likely Swider/Jimmy get 5-10 minutes at center.

I can't believe I'm seeing all this talk about Jimmy or Cole at the "5".
Edwards, Sidibe and Anselem should be in the middle.

What scares me is I won’t believe the best players will play the most till I see it now. That is what Kadary last year did to me.

I believe JB wants to win but I believe he wants to win his way. He has the rabbit ears and is very informed on what is said.
The fact we as a fanbase anticipate a small 6-8 kid being the backup C against ACC competition is just crazy pills when we have bigs on the team. That apparently are so under developed they can’t play and the HC is fine with that.

And I’m sure if Jimmy plays well fans will give him credit Lol.

I am consistent.
I can tell you that. I stand by what I just said though. Plus we are playing a hard schedule.
I just want a complete team.
A solid PG, shooting and bigs that can rebound and score a little.
That is the top 10 teams in college hoops.

We lost 6 of our top 8 scorers from last year. I like some of the pieces I just don’t see a top 25 team for most of the season.
I want Woody to play a lot of minutes. I expect he will play the 3rd most minutes of the 3 forwards 100%. I will shocked otherwise. Barring an injury or something obviously.

Sid has potato knee and we played Marek at Center. 5-10 minutes isn’t asking a lot.

Anselem is the odd man out this year based on reports of his lack of improvement.

I don’t believe it will be 5-10 minutes though.
I will say what is the point of having JBA and Ansalem on the roster if they can’t even play backup C minutes?

I just want to see Benny not play the 3rd most minutes of the forwards.

“Should be” and “will be” are 2 entirely different things.

We had 4 non-Marek C’s on the roster last year, yet JB chose to play Marek over all of them, except for later in the season, when Jesse started coming on strong.

Whether it be due to health/skill/experience/coach’s decision -
I would not be at all surprised if he once again decided to play a Forward (Cole &/or Junior) at the 5 for non-trivial minutes once again this year.

While I would LOVE IT if Sid was healthy enough, or Frankie skilled enough, to warrant PT -
I’m not holding my breath on either of those things, until I actually see them.

Agree 100%

I really really hope Jesse is the guy, and there were times he looked great. Going back to last season's stats, he played even less than I remember. 160 minutes for entire season. Only 6 games where he played over 10 minutes. Will he get in foul trouble? Can his body handle playing more minutes?

As you said - if a couple things go wrong with our centers, Jimmy/Cole will be playing material minutes at the 5. It helps Benny for playing time, but may not be the best path to wins

It’s a small ball lineup to get your best offensive team on the floor for 10 minutes. JBA wasn’t even going to stay here until he was. He was never in the plans for this year.

I'll gladly wager that Benny doesn't get the third most minutes at forward.

Not one of them had a capable player behind them.

Agree 100%.

Now, things could get muddied [in a good way] if Sidibe is able to go, or if Frank surprises and is ready to contribute more than expected. But neither of those things is likely / certain.

Which means that there will be ~20 minutes in all likelihood in the pivot that Swider and Jimmy will be next in line to split. And they might play more there situationally in different games anyway, given matchups.

Your last paragraph is what is frustrating. Good championship level teams aren’t doing that.

Our fanbase has just come to accept do whatever keeps us from bottoming out but not fixing the problem.

How can we have guys on this team that can’t play for multiple years and not address that.
I am thankful the 2022 recruiting is bringing in better talent.
Playing small ball can work in a spurt but it shouldn’t be the game plan as good teams will eat us up.

The team that won that National Title literally started a guy at center who was 6’6” And we are bringing in talent this year. You keep ignoring that because you can’t stand Boeheim and are angry Girard is the point guard.

Craig Forth was 7 ft tall.
McNeal was a big.

We had a complete team in 03.
Multiple PGs. Edelin-GMac
Elite scorer Melo
Post player Hak Warrick
Bigs to protect the rim. Forth/McNeal

Not sure how you are bringing that up.
This team is nowhere near that.
McNeal wasn’t a SF having to play C.

I don’t dislike Boeheim. I am sick of the bullchit he feeds the fanbase to justify he is never wrong though.

I was speaking to Baylor last year.. Not us. I should have specified. Small ball is in pretty much everywhere.

And If the team had a returning player average 18 ppg that was named Don Smith and brought in an elite freshman this board would be ecstatic. But some fans can’t get over the fact said player has the last name as the coach.

Baylor had an all around team.
If you told me we had the guard play and depth that Baylor then yeah I’d be more optimistic about playing small ball. I don’t see that talent on our team. Our form of small ball is nowhere near the level of Baylor.
If we want to play small ball that’s good then recruit the talent to play that system don’t put round pegs in the square holes just to play that system.

Buddy is a good player. He didn’t make any of the all-ACC teams last year. He was special the last 3 weeks of the season. That doesn’t mean he is going to do that all this season. Again I think he is a second or third option on a good team. He has to be the number one option for us because our offensive philosophy is just to jack up 3’s and out athlete midmajors. It’s better than the 2017-2018 teams out grinding teams.

I just want to see a team that a PG who push the ball in transition, with shooting and a Big who can actually play.
7 years of regular season mediocrity does wear some down. Buddy gets too much chit I agree but that is because publicly he is treated differently and that is just how it is.

You moved the goalposts now regarding small ball.

We disagree on Buddy a lot. Buddy will be a fine first option for any team and is going to get AA discussion this year. He played his best against the best teams. Clearly he was affected by Covid before that.

There’s too much discussion about previous years meddling in this thread.

Don’t be a Dasher and take me up on the Benny wager if that’s what you truly think.

Why would I want to bet on something I don’t want to happen. I want Benny to not be the third in minutes I’m just predicting it. I want him to play the most. You’re what you want me to take a bet that I don’t want to win to win. I did it with the other one because Dasher thinks we’re gonna be better than we actually are and I don’t believe that.

How did I move the goalpost when you said you were talking about Baylor. I talked about our championship team and then you said you were talking about Baylor so I compared it to Baylor.
