Big rutgers news coming?

My guess is once the BCS bowl tie-ins go away, the big east is done. Why would Boise State and San Diego State make the move, knowing there is no tie in?

Very possible.

Many changes could occur.

On the other hand, Boise and SD State and the others might see the national scope of the conference as a recruiting and revenue positive.

The Big Ten - Pac 12 tie-in suggests that the idea of expanding coverage is the wave of the future.

It might be that the BE Football Conference has been quite prescient.

I agree except for the part of the conference being awful.

I don't think it's awful at all - with University of Houston, Boise State, San Diego State, UCF, SMU and Cincy, Louisville, UConn and yes Rutgers it's a pretty darn good conference with national exposure and big city TV markets.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we're in the ACC for reasons of stability, regional appeal and money.

But I can't call the Big East Football Conference awful

"a pretty darn good conference with national exposure and big city TV markets" That's an extremely optimistic view of the potential for and the value of this far-flung collection of second or third tier programs.

The track record of the Metro Conference USA are much better predictors of the lack of success this Conference is likey to have. Just ak their fans, who seem desperate to flee to the ACC or Big 12.

Awful, perhaps not.

But as a conference with a BCS bid, mediocre at best. Perhaps unwary of it.

Boise, Houston, Cincy and Rutgers - not to mention WVU - won bowl games this year.

I can't call Boise, Houston or WVU mediocre.

Those teams are not mediocre...though Houston does need to prove it can win on a sustained rate.

But as a whole, this patchwork conference still is on the bottom of those with a BCS automatic bid.

WVU is gone right? Or did I miss something?

Schiano may not be able to coach but he can recruit. If they get someone who can coach, can he recruit?

Who cares, were done with Rutgers anyway.

Boise State is hardly a second or third tier program.

For the next year or two WVU is in the Big East Conference.

Presumably, at some point, the time table will change.

What does anyone around here give a baboons red fanny about the future of butgirls?

Yes, that's true.

Out of the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC and ACC the Big East is probably last in the pecking order.

But, it has the potential to grow a lot in this TV-dominated market.

we are working to build relationships in Jersey...combined with added clout of ACC we will probably be battling for more *** and **** recruits in Jersey and be up against Rutgers more often. so unfortunately the fate of Rutgers will concern us more than that of wake Forest...that is the world we live in of wacky conference alignments

Gosh, I just don't see how that will happen, unless WVU pays its way out.

Why do you feel they're gone?

I just think WVU is done with the BE, I don't see them playing in it next year. Unprofessional, etc as it may be. I just see them walking away, I could be wrong but I think they are done

I agree. Syracuse and Pitt are playing the "we hope we are leaving next year but"...where WVU is saying "we want the out...now".

I dont see them in the BE next season either.

I just think they are thumbing their nose at lawsuits, etc etc and will take their chances and their business elsewhere. Not the first time an organization or business has done this won't be the last

The projected growth in TV market is 6%

The REAL issue with the new BE is that they will have no automatic tie-in to the major bowls if/when the AQ system is discontinued in 2 years. The new BE will be on the outside looking in terms of all the NC playoff systems under consideration.

Maybe, the BE will be on the outside, but I wonder how you can arrive at that conclusion today.

I have not read everything, but I have yet to see the scenario you describe.

I frankly doubt that the BE will be on the outside of any new system.

My guess - and it's only a guess - is that a restraining order will be issued preventing the 'Neers from leaving until the terms of the contract are either honored or negotiated.

I do not see a breech of contract and I do not see an unreasonable restraint of trade given that WVU will be allowed to leave - during a reasonable time period - per the contract.

With respect Orange PA, there is a great deal of information on this topic (google BCS automatic qualifier status) suggesting that this type of change is imminent. In fact, there are several models on the table from the BCS conference commissioners awaiting consideration by the BCS presidential oversight committee. It is widely acknowledged that any such change to the current AQ will have a profound negative impact on the BE.

The commissioners are expected to make their final model recommendation to the presidents in June 2012.

Of all the years for this to happen, when our inn is full. It would have been a perfect opportunity to take some of their recruits aside, put an arm around their shoulders, let them know they had a home in upstate NY.

Schiano isn't going anywhere. Not to mention he is poised to land a few more four/five star recruits over the next two weeks.

Things are going very, very well on the recruiting trail. The conference situation is not hampering our recruiting at all...

Sure it isn't.

I hope they are just as good as Savage, Huggins, and Jefferson.
