Really look bad so far - and they aren't playing the Seahawks.

I didn't realize they were on so sounds like it was a good thing I missed the first half. But that TD drive looked pretty solid. Although I almost lost it when EJ ran it out of bounds instead of throwing it out of the end zone right before the TD pass to Mike.

Yeah, pretty stupid play for a pro.

Obviously I just needed to start watching.

I'm not watching but from what I've read, the entire first half was crazy vanilla offensive play calling. This is what they've done the entire preseason it seems. Please tell me this is a preseason thing and not Hackett's philosophy.

I think you can summarize doug marrone coached teams in 3 ways:
-dumb penalties
-bad turnovers
-curious offensive play calling/decisions

Another Bills player got arrested today as well. Alan Branch.

Bills have far too many off the field issues. Not good for a head coach on the hot seat with a new owner coming in soon. Culture change is needed in Buffalo and the new owner will see that and take action

I was wondering why Branch didn't play today and obviously this explains it. And I know Dareus has had his issues. But who else? Obviously one is too many but not sure I see this as a huge trend unless I don't remember some things, which could be the case.

Manuel v Nassib. Discuss
I think this deserves it's own thread. I go with Nassib. I did before the draft and I do now. Not that I think either guy is all that great.

Yeah I was there. EJ is a mess. Vanilla or not he's missing throws and missing them badly.

We'll wait on play calling because its preseason but I'm ready to go off on that too. Last year was uninspiring and I've seen nothing different.

Booed off your own field at the half of a preseason game. Takes a special kind of team to do that. Go Bills..

As many on this site know im a Doug lover but still im pulling for him and this staff big time. EJ has a ton of talent but might have a nickle brain. I think the Bills have a chance to go 500 this year and if they can sneak into the playoffs Doug will keep his job if not the change in ownership might cost him. I hope not

The worst part is, he's got open receivers. He's just not hitting them. He put together two good drives before his day ended though.

There was a seam route up the right hash yesterday where Chandler had the LB beat by 5-7 yards. Automatic throw for a pro. EJ didn't put enough air under it and it got tipped by the backer. That would've been a 25-30 yard gain that instead ended a drive. These plays are the ones that change perceptions of performance.

That play and the running out of bounds for a loss instead of getting rid of it. Shows me that he's nervous and not just playing, he's thinking or pressing instead of reading and reacting.

Not a Bills fan but I enjoy watching these guys. Hackett's offense has some really good pieces.

I didn't want to be the one to bring that up!
All I'll say in regards to that, is that if Nassib has a longer more prolific career than Manuel, Syracuse fans will never forgive Marrone.

Putting the best construction on things:
That was some sort of a naked bootleg that didn't work at all. Could EJ have known that he had linemen downfield and made a smart play by not throwing the ball?

That's an interesting point. I'll be the first to admit I am not an X's and O's guys so there may be more to a certain decision than someone with my limited knowledge base would be able to see.

I doubt it was a naked bootleg to his left but I suppose it is possible - but not probable.

I'm waiting for Millhouse's and Jeremy's take.

Given what we know of Marrone, he probably hates having so much preseason because he wants to keep everything they really want to do in the shelf to crack out for the real games. I'm not surprised the Bills look vanilla.

Well Millhouse has pretty much said the same thing on his last few hundred Bills posts. But I would be interested on Jeremy's take.

Doug showed some stones today and CUT Branch because of his arrest.

What a downfall. The poster boy for what NOT to do after you sign a three year contract extension. Ditch offseason workouts, fail your conditioning test and get drunk before a game. What choice did Doug have after this latest issue?

I was quoting your post to Mrs Crusty who was in the kitchen and she said, "Playoffs! Playoffs!"

Manuel looked fine in the second half. He and nassib are both backups. Marrone and Whaley are nuts. I wanted them to draft Manuel but I don't want them spending three first rounders on one qb (trading for watkins was about ej)
