Board Administrator Email To The Athletic Department

Yeah, a blackout would be a great way to alienate an already shaky local fanbase. You can't force someone to like your product, you have to make it appealing.
i think it should be done for pure comedy reasons.

'Syracuse University, in an attempt to generate a larger crowd, has initiated a television blackout consisting of a 90 mile radius. This saturday versus florida st, they got 3009 fans. Florida St brought 3ooo. Thus proving once again that CNYers are a bunch of selfish, moronic fools. The silver lining i suppose, is 15 years after being told to get a life by Chancellor Shaw, they apparently have.'

Sharkey's in Liverpool runs 2 shuttles to the football games. They charge a couple bucks I believe but nothing crazy

What good is a shuttle? The drop of point is just as far away as most parking lots. And it's not like they cans avoid traffic and we can't. Don't see the advantage.

The shuttle I took from Great Northern was very convenient. It was a lot more comfortable than the shuttles that run from skytop, and the drop off point was closer than all but the best parking lots. It was cheaper than paying for parking too. In regards to traffic, the cops let the bus right through, so we actually did miss a lot of the traffic, and what traffic we had didn't bother me because I wasn't driving. The only downside is missing out on tailgaiting, but I've never been a big tailgaiter. I used to wish they had one for the basketball games.

Drop off from the train is three blocks from the Dome. Virtually all of those lots inside of those three blocks are full, or nearly full, and eliminate the ability, of the sometime fan to park there. Their options are: (a) park at Skytop, and take the shuttle bus from there, but still have to drive to Skytop or (b) park in a very expensive garage or lot, but still have to navigate their way onto campus, or (c) park someplace and hope their car is safe when the parking rules change, or (d) park a long way away and hike up. Three blocks is just about their shortest option, and it would allow them to leave their car at Destiny, which might be their pre or post-game destination anyway. (At least I'm sure Pyramid would hope so.).

A train between the city (Armory Square) and Destiny and the University is an idea that should have emerged 40 years ago. But no none ever said Syracusans were forward-thinking.

Exactly. The bus I caught from Great Northern was actually a block closer than the train and I did just what you suggested. For noon or 3:30 games I would usually eat at a restaurant near the mall after the game and never had to worry about parking.

Or they could park in your secret spot.

I think the dead are still using it.

Yes, but is it still a working cemetary? If it's not, there's something like a 75 year waiting period, and then the land can be redeveloped. A big part of it seems to be closed to the public. I don't mean to sound like a jerk.

Companies get emails like that all of the time. It's why companies have customer relation departments. We are the consumers. It's their job to keep us happy if they want our business. They should not only expect but welcome emails telling them how to improve their product/our customer experience, especially when it's coming from people that have a vested interest in their success and already support them financially. We're trying to help them gain business and our advice is free. Companies pay marketing consultants to survey customers in order to get this same kind of feedback.

Few companies are progressive enough to listen to customers and make real changes. Most companies are filled with over-paid leadership who think they know best. SU has not done one thing to make me think they'd listen to any good ideas. You don't think Jake or Gross have already been pitched thousands of ideas? How many have come to light? Bet you can count them on one hand.

This isn't true. Read sutomcat's comment about what friends tell him. If people find the inevitable last minute deals they can go far cheaper than buying season tickets, especially if they only plan on going to one or two games. If SU wants to fill the stands, they need to lower ticket prices across the board. Worry about getting butts in the seats and reestablishing the local fanbase. Then they can slowly raise ticket prices if demand allows for it.

You can't count on getting good tickets on Marshall St. right before a big game. Sure, there are a bunch of games where you can count of a $10 ticket, but not for those top 5 or so home games.

not in the last two years

Ticket pricing needs to follow the diverging income paths in the country. Greatly increase good tix prices and decrease prices on less good seats.

Getting new students the opportunity to connect with former players might really spark some interest. Even over email... Help develop a feeling of being a part of a legacy.

Didn't they stop the train many years ago because it was too expensive to run/not enough people used it?

That one is huge, this past Saturday the visitor side looked much better where the seats had orange covers.

I have been talking with friends about having some kind of tie-in with student football/basketball (maybe there already is). It would be great to have some sort of rule that students have to go to the football games to get basketball tickets. It's so frustrating to see SU kids walking around before games with no idea there is a game going on.

Ive been talking about seat coloring for years even got in touch with the department about it awhile back. It shouldn't just be orange though it should be multiple shades of orange blue with a smattering of tan black and white to give the dome the supersome always full effect. I think if the dome looks full for every game people will come more often thinking attendance is coming back. Upper deck and lower should get this treatment.

With your tie in idea they should be able to swipe their student ids (which now carry their sesson tix too) on the way out of football games if they stay the whole game and get priority seating for basketball as a reward.

I blame the women of cny. I cannot tell you how many 20/3o something year old couples I know where the wife/girlfriend does not give a rats ass about SU football. You ask them if they are SU basketball fans and they say they looooove it.

Their husbands/boyfriends are your typical casual, apathetic SU football fan, who if single, would possibly go to the games. His fall Saturdays are not planned by him, but if he has time he will catch the game on tv. If it was a winter Saturday or Sunday, then going to the Carrier Dome would be an option.

Yes but with Destiny becoming much bigger, more hotels downtown--->better ridership

Heck all they had to do was shore up a railroad bridge and the train would've very close to the Baseball Stadium, Bus/Amtrak Train and Regional Market...but the politicians couldn't get it done.

SU currently has seasonal permit parking in the cemetary so I'm confused about these posts. I park there for both football and basketball. Why not buy a permit? It's not open for fans who only attend single games though. Is that the issue?

The land can't just be redeveloped. People paid for plots. Under the agreements, that payment is used to maintain the grounds of those buried there. If you are thinking they will somehow convince the management of the cemetery to dig up the remains and move them somewhere else so they can have more parking for the dome or to build a dome there, they won' so let's put it to rest (so to speak).

They could relocate those good folks inside the carrier dome. That would help boost attendance. Two problems solved.

We could put them in the suites and under the overhangs in the 200's no one will know the difference.

So sutomcat's friends are lying? I don't think they're just talking about scalpers. They're referring to midseason deals that the university or corporations offer as promotions. Look at what one of the credit unions did prior to the Clemson game. People were practically stealing those tickets.
