Bourama Sidibe has a torn meniscus

I don't think Marek starts at center in the near term. Frank or Jesse, just to see what they'll be able to do in the opening minutes. If any of the next several games are in doubt, say 10 minutes in, that's when we'll see Marek move over to the center spot.

In the end, this unfortunate development could end up paying dividends later in the season...
I understand your logic. However, if we want to have our best players on the court, then the frontcourt has to be Marek, Quincy and Alan. The guards are debatable.

No way he is back in four weeks
Not sure about that these are mainstream now. He actually may be back sooner depending on the damage they repair. It’s good news and he will have time to get in shape for the end of the season

Could have been worse, sounds like mid Jan perhaps he could be back.

Are bionics a thing yet? Any chance at an upgrade?

I did mine in 91 and was his age and I was 100 percent in a little over 3 weeks. He will be ok. Poor kid though.

Yeah, had mine done in '03, and was able to spin on bike almost immediately, and able to run easy maybe 3 weeks later.

Still - such a bummer. Poor kid can't catch a break.

Bummer. Heal up.

I don’t care if Marek ends up playing the position for 35 but my opinion, we start an actual center and let him play a few minutes. We did this with Coleman and Fab and Rak when they were horrendous too.

Let them start. Fill in as needed. Give them a chance early to do something. Fouls by them don’t hurt us but will kill us if Marek gets two by the 10 min mark (or before).

Maybe. JB has a bit of a problem now with 3 really good forwards, all good enough to be starters.

It has to be tempting to move Marek to C and make Alan a starter.

Hopefully roles and a rotation will be set up and followed, so the young players know what to expect and everyone is on the same page.

This should open some PT for the backup centers and if Marek continues to play meaningful minutes at center, maybe it will open a little PT for Robert or Woody.

One serious injury to a forward and we are going to need one of these guys to step up. Let's try and give them a little PT to help prepare them.

Marek needs to learn to pick up Center type fouls not stupid fouls. and to be good we need to find 20 min from the other centers so we can play him at center if we need too.

md/qg/ag is the best offensive frontcourt trio jb has been able to put on the court since fair/grant/christmas, but with any luck he won't need too much of that firepower vs niagara & rider and one of the true centers can stake a claim to the job.

Can he medical redshirt this year and come back full strength next year?

Would much rather get 100% of a healthy Bourama next year than a gingerly-moving Bourama in what could easily be a blow-off year with lots of cancelled games.

agreed, MD at the 5 allows for the best-possible offensive lineup

It's a free year for everyone. He can come back next year anyway if he wants to.

If he is on the shelf for 4-6 weeks I wonder what we’ll get when he comes off the shelf. He was starting to show significant promise, but it’s not like he is an established polished player.

Had surgery on a Thursday afternoon and was back to work on Monday. Was riding a bike within a week. I wasn't playing basketball, but I wasn't 22 years old either. He can easily be back by the first of the year. He will be jogging in a couple of weeks or less.

Unfortunately, JB won't use this time to prepare Edwards or Frank. He will just put Marek in the middle so he can play Guerrier and Griffin 38 minutes a game. This is an opportunity to be better by the end of the year, but I'm sure the time will be wasted just to play his top 5 or 6 players.

I think the frontcourt we saw at the end of the game (Marek, Guerrier, and Griffen) is our best overall, at least against most opponents. But as others have pointed out, Marek can't really play center the whole game without either fouling out or getting close to it. So Boeheim's gonna want to make sure he has his best frontcourt available at the end of the game, when he might really need them.

So that's another reason for Boeheim to at least try to get Frank and/or Jesse to absorb some of the fouls at the Center position early on, so long as it isn't too costly to the team. That will be Frank's and Jesse's best opportunities to show what they can do.

Now if one or both of them ends up doing pretty well at defending the rim, then that's a whole new discussion...
