Bourama Sidibe has a torn meniscus

I think the frontcourt we saw at the end of the game (Marek, Guerrier, and Griffen) was our best overall, at least against most opponents. But as others have pointed out, Marek can't really play center the whole game without either fouling out or getting close to it. So Boeheim's gonna want to make sure he has his best frontcourt available at the end of the game, when he might really need them.

So that's another reason for Boeheim to at least try to get Frank and/or Jesse to absorb some of the fouls at the Center position early on, so long as it isn't too costly to the team. That will be Frank's and Jesse's best opportunities to show what they can do.

Now if one or both of them ends up doing pretty well at defending the rim, then that's a whole new discussion...
I definitely think we need to use one or two of the centers for at least 15-20 minutes per game. We need rotations at all positions.

This doesn't necessarily mean much, but at least visually, Edwards looked like he put on some weight and gained a good deal of muscle definition. Did not actually see enough serious plays from him but dare I say his feet left the ground on one occasion, which is one more time than I saw all of last year. That coupled with his touch around the rim, year of experience, and seriously large wingspan would make him potentially the best candidate to give Marek relief.

The entire season of football - and I will assume basketball as well - has taken on an aura of unreality. I am very glad to watch games but for me there is also a bit of detachment. (If we play well and start winning, I am sure I will go from detachment to attachment!) I was walking the other day and saw a neighbor who drove me to and from all the games one season. I greeted him and then said, “So, Dave, basketball is starting up!” He’s an older man. He just stared at me and said, “I don’t care.”

I kind of get it.
Strangely I get it too...

Frankie was first in vs Bryant
True. I don't know if we should take that yet to mean he passed Edwards on the depth chart. JB might have wanted to make sure he got him a chance to get him in the game.

Wasn't Big Bad Bobby Braswell our 2nd check-in? There's no way he's our 7th man.

Marek needs to play 35+ minutes every game for us to hit our ceiling and he’s just not going to do that playing center against P5 teams.

And although Marek "bulked up" I'm always concerned about the pounding he takes against big centers.
Sidibe's injury is bad enough -but if a major injury happens to Marek....

What I looked forward to most was potential to see Marek finally get the opportunity to play at his position the entire season. Already that opportunity is lost! :(

$&@#^#*%!!! Why can’t we ever have nice things? We NEED Bourama for defense, rim protection, and rebounding. I believe he was primed to have a really good senior year. This is incredibly disappointing. The only upside is that it happened now so maybe he’ll actually be back in early January. Though who knows how long it’ll take to get him back in game shape and feeling physically strong and confident.

I follow the football games on twitter but haven't watched more than a few minutes since the UNC game. And I was surprised how excited I was for the basketball game (until it started). I wasn't excited about the game leading up to it. So I also get it.

Unfortunately, JB won't use this time to prepare Edwards or Frank. He will just put Marek in the middle so he can play Guerrier and Griffin 38 minutes a game. This is an opportunity to be better by the end of the year, but I'm sure the time will be wasted just to play his top 5 or 6 players.

Marek has bulked up from Angel hair to thin spaghetti.

Meniscus tears are not all created equal.

If the tear is in the vascular part of the meniscus, they'll repair it, the patient will be non-weight bearing for a while, and it's a long rehab, something like 12 weeks.

If it's in the avascular area, they remove the damaged part, the patient is weight bearing as tolerated, and the rehab is much quicker. It sounds like this is what he has.

This really sucks. That said, MD at the 5 is the best offensive small ball lineup we can throw out there as already noted.

I would expect Jesse gets the opportunity but we see Frank as well. Jesse does a decent job with denying the entry pass and naturally takes up more space. With practice reps I think he would do ok.

This is going to necessitate more minutes for Richmond. Without Bourama, and minus evidence from Jesse/Frank, the screening will suffer mightily. Quincy does an ok job too but overall having a taller guard who can beat his defender off the bounce is a must when you are lacking in good screeners to help get more open shots against mtm. If we get zoned we have the shooters to attack it but in a tough mtm we have to have someone to be able to break it down. Marek certainly can beat a big man and Kadary alongside gives us a nice combination. Buddy or Joe do fine off the action from these two and it opens lanes up for Alan/Quincy. Going 35 mins with a combo of Joe/Buddy and Marek at the 5 is not going to strong enough on both ends of the court.

He’s the starting QB against ND this week.
