Brent Axe says Reds job should be in jeopardy

I’m not sure how you can have this big of a a disaster season and retain the entire staff. You have to have a sacrificial lamb or two. Grif has overstayed his welcome. I expect him to go. Dan E hasn’t been a good fit. Brendan has at least landed some recruits but I have no idea if he can coach.
What evidence do you have to say that these guys should be replaced? JW said just the opposite today. How many practices have you been to? Have you seen their interaction with recruits and families? Have you seen them break down film or organize practices?

At some point, when you say and do enough things that are wrong and don't work, you lose credibility.

This staff currently doesn't have the "you think you know more than them" card. This is not JB and Red isn't in the HOF.

They need to show the opposite of what they've done before anything they do gets the benefit of the doubt

My post got deleted earlier in the season when I questioned whether they actually break down game film . . .

Take two!

To make my post more constructive this time, reviewing game film can be a great time to go over X's and O's, AND address accountability.

Welcome to the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players"and Coaches. If they broke down film and prepared for their opponents and fulfilled their defensive and offensive assignments it would show on the court. So far I see none of it. Either game plans suck or they don't have one. Based on what I have seen reminds me of the 1961-62 season. Late 60s after Bing and Boeheim, had a couple of bad years. Lewis left and Danforth took over and within a year had a winner. Lack of defensive knowledge and laziness on D untill Danforth got it fixed. Yes I am that old. ( back to the Vinnie Cohen Jim Brown years)

Agreed.

And what you lay out applies to the coaching staff -- what is the single thing that we can point to that this staff does successfully?

Recruit?
In-game coaching?
Player development?
Good foundational systems on either side of the ball?
Playing competitively in games despite the opponent [versus getting blown out]?
Solid KenPom / NET advanced metrics, just coming up a little short due to roster limitations?

No, no, no, no, no, and no.

Red will get a third year, because that's how the University rolls. But it isn't deserved.
Yes.

It is so clear that he just doesn't have what it takes to be a successful at this level as a head coach.
He might learn and improve to mediocre & I do not dislike Red at all but he is a lucky man
What does the University expect next year? What will they decide if we go 19-15? 21-14 NIT? 22-13 play in game?
If you keep him after this year and we appear marginally improved next year...will they let him go then?
How? Why? Prepare for a 4th year.

It makes no sense to hang on after this year...Im sorry but holding onto recruits is not a reason to hold onto a coach.
If you hire what appears to be the right coach he will get what appears to be the right players.

But I am praying that coach proves me way wrong.

If decisions are based on fans perspective why aren’t people clamoring for the entire defensive side of the football team being canned, including Fran Brown as defensive backs coach? They were terrible in coverage, couldn’t tackle and couldn’t get to the quarterback. The football team won for their offensive performance only. Nixon and McCord are special talents and they were great. The defense was dreadful. They must not be able to teach or break down film and everything you said about the assistant basketball coaches. Tell me which assistant coach is in charge of defense in basketball and then you might have an argument. We know who coached defense on the football team and no one has been fired. I would say the offense on the basketball team has over achieved. They can’t dribble, shoot or pass and they average 75 points a game. I’ve always wondered why fans pick and choose who should be fired without ever seeing them interact with players. As a fan, I don’t have the right to say who should be retained or let go. JW isn’t demanding coaches be fired either and he has seen these guys interacting with players. They may all suck, but that’s not our call. I find it very disrespectful to the coaches and their families.

We are 12-18 and there’s a good chance we lose 20. That’s all the evidence we need.

Brent Axe is doing the best job amongst the Syracuse media in even handedly covering the men’s hoops program.

Let that sink in.
I’m a big fan of ESPN Syracuse shows but have been very disappointed in them carrying water for the university and gaslighting fans the entire season. They chalk it up to season 1 good, this season a throwaway, let’s get another data point and that it’s the players fault/talent. Completely ignores that year 1 was mediocre as 20 wins in a down ACC and not making the tourney isn’t the “Good” by any SU standard. Also ignores the poor coaching all season, lack of improvement throughout the year, no key wins. I really don’t think it’s just talent

Take it to the football board.

If Red is staying the entire staff must go. But I have no idea how he’s going to turn over his staff and build a roster for next year all in the span of a few months.

I think the biggest issue I have with giving Red another year is you are committing to another year when they’re so many unknowns and so little time to fix it.

Red hasn’t been building toward anything. Filling 5-7 roster spots and turning over your staff is next to impossible. I feel like JW just punted again and is desperately hoping for some kind of miracle. I see no miracle happening. Hope is a bad strategy.

Honestly, I can see both Red and JW getting fired next year. JW has been nothing but a disaster for the basketball program. Absolute disaster.

I want to see a new HC and AD for 2026
The only reason JW is gone is if decides to retire.

Respected and delivering results are independent

The fact is he hasn’t delivered results with men’s basketball, once the crown jewel of Syracuse athletics
Boeheim bullied his way through the last 6 years of his tenure. He was enabled by boosters and the BoT. Wildhack was the guy who finally got him out. I mean, JB would still be coaching right now if he got his way.

We're not quite through 2 years of the post-Boeheim era. We'll be onto coach #2 of that era in a year if things don't turn around.

That statement has been made only about 5,000,000 times on the board, and yet, there are still an unbelievable number of "WiLdHaCk iS InCoMpEtEnT. He sHoUlD Be fIrEd iMmEdIaTeLy!" posts.
