Lots of programs are in purgatory because adding a buyout increases an athletic dept’s expenses (important to keep expenses down bc of rev share) unless boosters pays the buyout number (they’re more focused on NIL or donating directly to paying players).

I think throwing money at a situation like this may be the cheaper option until the buyout is manageable because you have to spend money on players anyways regardless of who’s the coach.

Welcome to the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players"and Coaches. If they broke down film and prepared for their opponents and fulfilled their defensive and offensive assignments it would show on the court. So far I see none of it. Either game plans suck or they don't have one. Based on what I have seen reminds me of the 1961-62 season. Late 60s after Bing and Boeheim, had a couple of bad years. Lewis left and Danforth took over and within a year had a winner. Lack of defensive knowledge and laziness on D untill Danforth got it fixed. Yes I am that old. ( back to the Vinnie Cohen Jim Brown years)

And that's why we are in this mess. They all still are JB supporters which is nice, but the only way to fix the program is to move on.
Until they all decide that it isn't disrespectful to build a new program from the ground up, in a new direction we will continue to be bad.

You should understand this isn't on John. It was a nightmare getting Jim to step down. From the coup he pulled with Hop till the incredible mess he created after his last season Jim was all about Jim. He was given way too much power. JW was in an incredibly difficult situation which you and everyone else on this board who has been around for as long as we have knows.
There was only one choice for the transition and it was Red.
He took over a team that was a hot mess and got 20 wins out of them.
This year has been horrible. Red has been clueless. He has been God awful.
But it's year two. Melos kid is coming. Melo is behind the program. Syracuse doesn't fire coaches after only two seasons.
Again, you know this. Did you or anyone who has followed Syracuse Athletics for years actually expect Syracuse to fire Red? Seriously. If so you don't have a clue as to the dynamics involved.
JW has done a great job and if Red craps the bed next year he will hire a great new coach. But get off the fire JW train as you should know what's actually going on and how this has all unfolded. It sucks for sure but it is taking the path it has to take.

And 4 of Oregon's top 6 scorers didn't appear in their game with SU. That's too much of an advantage for SU to ignore. Not suggesting it shouldn't count, nor was it Autry's fault.

I don’t understand a subset of this board’s obsession with clawing back a win or two from Red in Year 1. Practically speaking there’s not much of a difference between Chaminade and a low D1 team.

We are the worst Syracuse team this year in decades. It has to be changed pronto.

Not sure why we can’t see the facts that this is a pro league now and the cute notion of time is something we can afford.

He should be fired and be paid unlike UConn who do run a pro program and did it with cause.

Question for board insiders as I don't really understand who is responsible for results? Is the AD or BOT ?

Since JW has been hired

Football - 52-59 with bowls in 4 out of 9 years
Basketball - 163-129 - 55% winning percentage and only making Tournament 3 out of 9 years


It seems that JW can only do so much and a lot of the decisions are out of his hands. I also think he has been successful in other aspects of the job but these results do not scream untouchable? What am I missing?
