Pay him more to stay. Also the non sports radio here locally lost Jim Reith our drive time radio guy left bout the same time. Now we have a guy named snozzberry on local 570 afternoons and local sports radio got the Manchild and his lap dog boy green who only got the job because he was a student of manchild and was his teachers pet. Then we got some nobody with the show call the sportszilla show on the other station between orange nation and axe.
They should have ponied up to keep Bob Costas and Mike Tirico too!!!

Axe is a little bit different as he is from the area where Parkins and Schein were not. I don't mind Axe but I don't think he is in the same ballpark when it comes to talent as the other 2. Syracuse is a very small market in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly. Don't think any amount of money would have helped. Parkins dream was always Chicago.

By way of Kansas City. Where is he now ?

I know he was in Kansas City. I live here and listened to him. He's still in Chicago.

Think of media like baseball farm system.
Syracuse is a AA market.
Kansas City is a AAA market
Chicago is a big league market.

Perkins was working his way up the system.

Nothing wrong with Syracuse being a AA market either.
It’s not a huge area.

Axe is comfortable being the big fish in a small bowl. He isn’t going to be rough on his station’s meal ticket. They probably make a lot of money selling advertising for the spots.

Axe wrote the story the fanbase needed said out loud.

JB expecting Axe to pushback against Pat’s opinion is wrong but Axe not pissing off JB is common sense.

You won’t even call him even though the nepotism point has now be said out loud.

There's a way to ask tough questions in a polite manner.

I came up old school.
That is - if anything - you're tougher on people with whom you happen to agree.

Times have changed...and generally for the worse.
Now almost everyone is openly partisan.
And if you happen to be one of the relatively few who plays it straight...people take you as opposing anyone whom you strongly question.

The term 'haters' always bugs me. It seems symbolic of the time.

You joke, but in 50-100 years it could happen. Once global warming and massive droughts/fires/flooding make the south and west uninhabitable, CNY will be paradise.
You're right. Syracuse might be a coastal city by then.

Steals are such an overrated and often misleading defensive stat. You can intercept a few passing lanes per game and rack up steals while consistently not being able to guard someone in front of you. Perfect example is GMac who led the team in steals 3 out of 4 years but could never keep athletic guards like Marcus Williams in front of him.

Many good thoughts and points in this thread so I won't repeat them but go to a different frustration that I have with Boeheim. START KADARY. If he can only play 28-30 minutes (which is bs), then fine. At least we get out of the gate the best we can as a team instead of having to bring Kadary in when we're 8-10 points down. We all like Joe, but would like him even more coming off the bench and playing 20 minutes or so. If he's playing really well, great, ride him. But, if he (and Buddy) aren't playing well, guess what you do? Boeheim's answer unfortunately is more minutes to allow them to shoot out of it.
Some dont like Joe as much as others. I think hes an ok 7th man. Solid but not ACC level PG. 2 maybe. But definitely not a pg.

On the whole I thought it was a balaced interview. Boeheim clearly took some responsibility for some of the shortcomings that the team has exhibited. Adn to be fair he said Kadary can't play 35-40 minutes now but he will get there. He talked about the lack of a full pre-season conditioning program and disrupted practice schedules as being contributing factors. That's when he called out that Kadary was working harder than he ever has in his life. He clearly defended Girard from criticism. JB has always been loyal to players and assistants almost to a fault. What struck me was how tuned in he is to call in shows and intenet comments. He clearly reads and listens way too much. The one thing that struck me about Axe's defense was when they talked about being rude to reporters. Axe mentioned people don;t see Jim reach out after press conferences to explain things in depth when he seems to be dismissive of questions.

he didn’t sound loyal to Jesse or Bras to me. What’s different about them? They are on the team, too.

Yeah: we have become a mean, bitter, society, lined up by teams, rather than right and wrong. Much of it is due to there being limited personal interaction when calling someone out. These keyboard social engineers are, for the most part, emboldened only by distance and anonymity.

Too many people have nothing to say, unless it is negative, forgetting the old adage, "if you can't say something nice, its better to say nothing at all."

Now there are buzz words used to cut off debate, because the foundation of the accusation would not hold up to vigorous debate. If you disagree with the use of the buzz word, that just "proves" their position.

I hears that he thought Jesse was not ready yet. I think the plan was actually to redshirt him this year, but with the NCAA freebie they decided not to. ANd with Bourama and Frank going down he has been pressed into more action. He was actually pretty complimentary about Braswell. Said he made a huge shot that may have saved the game and called out his defensive awareness.

JB is losing his marbles...our interior definitely hurts us without having a legitimate 5 and Griffin learning the rotations still...but cmon! Anyone can see that our guards (buddy/jg3) when up top let shooters take wide open looks as well as letting the ball into the high post easily/guys blow by them. Its so much more then just our interior. He tries too hard to justify the play of some vs others. So Frustrating!

The top of the zone isn’t great but the lack of interior defense is very clearly the biggest issue with the defense. Far and away the biggest issue.

The zone doesn’t work without a Center.

When you say that some don't like Joe as much as others, I'm not sure that's really true. What some don't like is how many minutes he gets. Others (like you and me) don't like him in the PG role. There are also some (including myself) that don't believe he should start. Those are all things that Boeheim is responsible for, not Joe.

Think about it, if Joe came off the bench and was used in limited minutes, I believe he could be a favorite. There is much to Joe to like. I just don't like how he's being utilized which has nothing to do with him personally.

Meanwhile I'm enjoying my 80 degree temp in Tampa this afternoon. Just so much that I'll be out on the course in a couple of hours. :)

Bottom line, for me: This team lacks talent. That’s a product of poor recruiting. That’s Boeheim’s fault (not without other contributing factors, but still his fault). Want to call for his head? Call for it over that.

This team is not losing games because of poor X’s and O’s coaching or roster management.

Finally listened to whole thing. A few thoughts. A coach responding to a specific fan is just not a good look at all. Him saying "He attacked my son" is...yikes. His comment about Axe "I didn't hear any disagreement" is weird, I didn't realize that was Brent's job.

I think its a combination of all three things.
-recruiting has dropped off significantly
-most of our offense is predicated on relatively unathletic players having to simply create their own offense one on one
-minutes distribution is highly questionable

Ultimately that's what it comes down to. But I can see why the constant losing and mediocrity calls everything into question.

Buddy’s minutes are high. Joe’s have dropped and Kadary’s have risen. Woody and Bras look good but Guerrier and Griffin are hard to play over.

There’s no minutes distribution Tetris that appreciably improves the team on the court. We need a Center and don’t have one with two fully functional knees. Jesse could play a tad more, but he has looked less than stellar more often than he’s looked capable.

Buddy doesn’t need the SF minutes unless he and Joe are hot. Kadary is getting 25, Joe’s around 25, so that’s 30 for Buddy. Maybe fudge with it a little to get it to 30, 20, 30. That would placate the fans but probably not do anything for our record. Who starts is inconsequential. We’re not losing games because the starters dig a hole or don’t build leads.

If Buddy isn’t playing SF, assuming Marek is still the Center, there should be 15 minutes for Woody and Bras to share. Give them those minutes.

Give Jesse a few minutes each half at Center. If he misses an assignment or doesn’t send a 6-foot guard’s layup 4 rows deep, pull him and ride it out with the European, but give him the chance.

Again, I think this would placate the fans more so than anything else. I don’t think Jim cares about placating the fans. We’d still lose games and they’d find something else to complain about, just louder than they were complaining before.
