Bruce Pearl, abruptly retires

Not a fan but gotta be honest, don't have a beef with how he played his departure. Taker care of his son giving him a program that is in excellent shape, gets out while he still has his fastball (or seems to), etc. I can think of some other family related transitions that didn't leave the program in as good of shape.

I do find it funny how some of these big names (ahem Saban, Dabo and now Pearl) are getting out or struggling to adapt just as the cheating is leveling out for everyone.

So many articles out there explain why he’s awful.

This is a good summary.

“For others who have closely followed Pearl’s career for decades, the tears, the smile, the gimmicks all seem like little more than masking agents to distract the public from the fact that the man is a phony, a cheat, and a snitch.”

The auburn fans are actually supporting his son getting the job... That is absolutely wild
to be fair, i think resumes are overrrated. Boeheim never coached before he got the Syracuse job, for example

i think so many people in all walks of life have jobs they shouldnt have simply bc they have a "great resume"...and a lot of former players who are very well liked suck as coaches

if he's good, he's good...we'll find out

There's ton to criticize about the process of what happened, and most of it has merit. But for folks like ET it has nothing to do with basketball or with how he stepped down despite what he tries to claim.

Etan’s post shown in message #21 had nothing to do with Pearl stepping down. He made that statement before Pearl resigned. His comments are in reference to Pearl’s open support and fawning of Charlie Kirk.

Which is still surprising since most of his time on social media is spent attacking everyone who even moderately supports Caitlin Clark.

I don't disagree, there are a lot of talented coaches that are just waiting for their first chance. That being said, nepotism is never a good look, implied or otherwise. The fact that Bruce waited until right before the season is what concerns me. He didnt give them a chance to explore the options.

Never coached? If you don’t count his being assistant coach from 69-75 I guess.

Personally - I don't care. Dean Smith did the same thing at UNC (he retired on 10/9/97); Jay Wright just did it at Villanova as well. Its not like Pearl was the first, he's not going to be the last - the main difference is people generally liked Smith and Wright and mostly gave those two a pass. Many people despise Pearl and so are getting the vapors over him leaving right before the season starts.

I certainly didn't give Wright a pass, i thought that was a garbage move and it has bitten them in the ass
