My guess is Harper goes back to wash and manny to Philly for a lot less than they.thought they would get.
I think if they didn't trade for Stanton they would be in on Harper. Teams are leary of giving out these long term deals.I hope you're right. Bryce is basically Mickey Mantle to my kids.
I am still confounded that the Dodgers, Yanks, and to a lesser extend Rangers, Giants, and Cards are sitting this out.

Bryce would go nuts in the new Yankee Stadium. DC market is great for him, Philly actually would hold his feet to the fire.
I think the NYY have been burned too many times with big dollar contracts. These deals rarely work out for the teams that decide to splurge on a long term deal at crazy dollars.
Manny gets 300 mil over 10 years from the Padres...
Yes-in-Didi!!!Manny gets 300 mil over 10 years from the Padres...
Machado took the Hosmer route. Sign for the max dollars while playing for a team that is likely to go 10-15 games under .500. Seems fitting. At least he won't have to worry about improving on last year's abysmal postseason performance.
Like Otto said, getting paid $300 mill to play in San Diego with no pressure to actually compete is a great gig.
Yeah, the Padres have been among the highest rated farm systems for awhile now. I have heard people point to 2020 or 2021 as the years when that talent will pay off at the MLB level. Machado is going to spend the rest of his prime on a roster with lots of talent. I think it is a good move for both parties.I guess no one has any clue about how farm systems work based on the comments. Best system in baseball. Padres are a year or 2 away from having some of these high end kids hit the majors and then be making no money for their 1st 5 years of service time. Thats what allows for a huge expenditure. That Hosmer deal still makes no sense but at least he's a star during odd number years.

He got the contract that the Nats offered Harper, right?
On one hand, I can't believe teams are committing 10 years to one player. Especially one who spent most of last season on the worst team in baseball. But then I was listening to MLB later and they said teams always find a way out. Like Cano to the Mets. Have to pay some for it, but still, they get out of it.
Unless it's Ellsbury. Next year at this time I'll be doing the Carmelo chant for him.
One more year.

I think it's kinda funny / sad / aggravating that Bryce thought he's have the Cubs / Dodgers / Yanks playing off each other and instead probably should've stayed put.
