Bubble Watch - Thursday Tourney Week

TCU built quite a hole entering tourney weel. At the start of the thread I had them at less than 25% if they win over Kansas (i.e. a real surprise pick)... I still believe that. I think they get to 50/50 with a win over Iowa St.

Either way they are somebody that needs to be watched very closely moving forward.

I must be the odd man out, but I never root for Kansas, Duke, or Kentucky. I don't care who they're playing, or even how it affects our tourney chances.

Sure I'd like to see us make the dance, but we've done enough to put that in question. Reminds me of Pogo. (the comic strip)

I find a way in the last week to cheer for those teams, but I respect your hard and fast rule never to cheer for them.

Last 10 used to be a criteria. I haven't seen anything to say it still is. Same for conference record. Do you have a link?

They say the last 10 aren't a criteria but then they also admit to the eye test. Which games do they watch? Some of the last 10 or games in December? It matters. If it didn't we wouldn't be stressing every possession involving these bubble teams.

Guys calm down. This afternoon overall was very good. Only game that didn't go our way twas TCU - but they still need to do more.

In about 7 hours we will know where we stand. Utah, Indiana and Baylor are super important. Then Butler and UCLA. Texas A&M would be a big plus as well

So we def want Indiana over Iowa, right?

Yes ideally IU beats Iowa - then Wiscy beats IU tomorrow. That will take care of the B10 really. MSU is in - but IU, Iowa and Illinois would be done.

I hope you're right. Seems logical if it plays out that way. But I worry about the B1G commissioner. Mr. Delaney is the most powerful guy in college sports. He's pretty good at a pulling a rabbit out of his hat.

He pulled a real good one out of his hat picking Rutgers.

Good point. It's the human factor.

Seton Hall winning was not very good for us either.

Eh, not me. I would root for anyone and everyone if it helped our tournament chances. I don't care if it was our own doing or not, I will be hoping until the last possible second on Sunday we are in.

That's 14 games, the worst conference record ever was Fsu got in at 6-10 one year.
And that 14 game % is still not as bad as 6-12.
It's 18 games out of 30-something. So obviously it matters in that it's a significant portion of the team's season. Not because they are "conference games." You might as well figure out a team's combined record on Tuesdays and Sundays and use it as a reason for why the team will or won't be dancing because of what their record is on those days. It's just as relevant.

[The committee] does not consider when teams win games.
"The committee several years ago did away with part of the criteria that placed more emphasis on the last 10 games or the last 12 games," Gavitt said. "That's no longer a criteria that the committee uses."

How NCAA tournament selection committee will judge Syracuse basketball this season

Hate to say it as a SU alumn, but IMO the bubble has burst. A few more upsets in the Conference tournaments and SU is out (unless it gets a play in game). Bad losses and terrible away (from home) record. And where are the tournament games played ? Away from home. I think the committee will take that into consideration when reviewing SU's resume.

They were a lock IMO. At least to stay above us.
No way of knowing that until Selection Sunday. Extremely comparable resumes. Syracuse has better computer rankings, more Top 50 wins, more Top 25 wins. But beating Marquette was likely the clincher because of road wins.

I think Hall was probably above Marquette - but regardless they're both in. Really need Iowa and Cal to lose.
