Buffalo Bills 2017 Why do I put myself through this season thread

The Williams cut makes no sense at all zero. This front office is getting into Matt Millen territory

I'm not going to put them in Millen territory until we play some games, but I'm just stunned at releasing Williams and Hodge. I don't see the logic at all. I guess they think Tolbert and Banyard are enough behind Shady, but I very much disagree.

We also have 5 WRs of which 2 are return men. I know Dennison likes his tight ends so maybe we go 2-TE sets?

I thought Williams looked great in preseason. He's on a cheap rookie deal so cutting him makes zero sense for this year or the future. I guess they love Banyard?

Reilly and Shorts signed to the PS. Still can't figure out cutting Williams or Hodges.

Signed Joe Webb. Guess he's a special teams ace so kills two birds with one stone in emergency QB and Special Teams.

John Miller and Jordan Mills will start against the Jets. Thank goodness! Still don't know how Vlad is on this team but at least it's official that Miller won the job.

tankapolooza in Buffalo. Along with the NY Jets tanking and Miami being mediocre at best the Pats should go 14-2 minimum

Is it a tank though?

We traded young players for young players. Tyrod Taylor seems to be starting if healthy. We're not cutting expensive vets, instead we're cutting/trading players on rookie contracts.

Bizarre af tank. Aside from accruing Draft picks (which is just smart), I don't see many tank moves.

I get why fans say this but it seems to be a gut reaction to the Watkins trade and that's it. Fans werent claiming tank before that and I don't believe Sammy is a difference maker given his inability to stay on the field.

If Tyrod is out for the opener man that Jets game is a tossup.

Peterman/Webb vs. McCown/Hackenburg might be the worst opening day QB start since forever.

Williams went unclaimed.

Really interesting. I thought he had a great preseason and has potential to be a good back. Not a superstar by any means but a good back for a few years.

I hope we make some room for him on the practice squad. If Shady gets hurt I don't like the idea of a Banyard, Tolbert, Jones platoon at RB.

Shady please don't get hurt!

We should at minimum put him on the practice squad. When Mccoy inevitably gets hurt the combo of Banyard/Jones is not going to get it done in any capacity. I do like the fact that we have Reilly and Shorts on the PS, those guys both had nice moments in the pre-season.

Agreed, not feeling great about the path for success in 2017, could be a rough one. D needs to be damn good to stay respectable

I think its clear Beane/McDermott want to tank to set themselves up for the 2018 draft and probably the 2019 draft. After 17 years of no playoffs its hard to say that trying a complete rebuild for the first time isn't the answer but its frustrating to watch them make so many curious moves. Darby/Watkins was hard to swallow but it at least made some sense in the thought process of stacking picks. The Williams/Hodge moves are bizarre and in my mind echo thoughts of Chip Kelly/Matt Millen. I can't make a reasonable explanation for letting go of either player, there really is no rationale. I am a bit surprised Terry Pegula didn't raise an eyebrow, I hope he at least got a full explanation on the reasoning behind those two moves. I think the D will be better then last year but with depth issues why cut a guy like Hodges or trade Seymour? No choice but to trust the process but the last few moves have let me wondering if these guys know what their doing.

Only explanation is one where Beane/McDermott have sold Pegula on pretty much a complete cultural overhaul as I agree with you on some of the latest moves other than that. I have no idea if this is in fact accurate but to me seems the only explanation for such moves, get rid of the roaches and bring in the ants. Probably going to get worse before it gets better eventually. By the time Brady hangs it up the bills are hoping to be in a good spot

I too believe this is exactly whats happening in Buffalo. Complete overhaul and draining of the swamp. I don't buy the tank talk but feel like Pegula gave Beane/Mcdermott his blessing on a total roster overhaul to change the locker room culture. I'm slightly surprised they didn't cut Dareus. This season could be painful, although the AFC East looks weak.

Dareus was probably a cap hit too far.

Anquan Boldin wants to play for the Patriots.

If he does he should report to the Bills and force them to play him or release him.

Yeah really the only logical explanation and to me both Coach and GM appear to be fairly pragmatic. Quite common with a cultural change in any organization

So Bills fan are you guys in favor of the Patriots winning tonight or the Chiefs winning tonight.

Patriots win helps your draft pick.
Chiefs win helps the division race.

Don't think most fans are too concerned with the "division race" if that is what people are calling it and I don't think anyone actually wants the Pats to win other than Pats fans

Rooting for a tie and lots of injuries to both teams!
