Buffalo Bills 2017 Why do I put myself through this season thread

Of course not they're the Chargers. Solid favorite though. With McCown I think that'd be a legit coinflip.

Yeah Petty vs. that D is not a good matchup. Gotta hope the Jets D comes to play too and they somehow squeak out a rock fight.

No, I think you know... Brady owns the bills. Belichek makes one dimensional qbs like Tyrod look useless. Dennison and McD don’t get it that ball control, time of possession, field position and field goals are worthless against the Pats... the Bills need to hire their version of Dino, someone who gets modern football. Tired of dinosaur coaches.

Great take. Bills need to go find their version of a guy who got his a$s whipped at home by Wake and BC.

Ball control, time of possession, and field position have been crucial in every football game ever played.

McDermott has faced the Pats exactly once.

Now I wouldn’t bet money on the Bills but gimme a break.

Agree. Coach McDermott has made some mistakes this year but has the Bills at 8-6 with a roster that is being rebuilt and a work in progress at best, he also will tweak his staff a bit at the end of the year, IMO. ( Dennison) He has the best shot at playoffs since 2004, not bad for a rookie HC. He inherited a mess to say the least. Get to 9-7 ( Pray for 10-6 but probably aint happening) and hope for help. Playing carousel head coach isn't a good option nor should it be even remotely under consideration with McDermott. WOW.

Agree, McDermott has made plenty of mistakes but he has them playing hard. All the pundits and talking heads predicted the Bills were tanking and wouldn't win more than 4 games. This is the closest since the Bledsoe year.

NE is beatable. Do I think Buffalo will beat them...probably not but you never know. Heart tells me we win out and go 10-6 but my brain says 9-7. Either way it's nice to watch meaningful football in December.

LETS GO BUFFALO

I don't know that I'm super impressed with McDermott getting us to 8-6 and in Playoff Contention just because of what the pundits picked us to be. Every year they pick us to be 4-12, and every year we finish 7-9, 8-8, 9-7.

I'd definitely keep him in place for next year. He's very frustrating at times and the "Prevent Offense" (as someone coined on the BBMB) is just ridiculous when we slam McCoy into stacked boxes for multiple drives with the lead but overall, I like what they're doing with the roster, provided they hit on their draft picks and FA.

All indications are that their first draft was a success with White being a stud DB, Dawkins looking very good on the OL, Zay (work in progress but has flashed) and Milano being a steal at LB.

This is even more ridiculous considering they have Tyrod at QB. Why not run a bootleg or a read option or something? Like that QB keeper we ran for Tyrod's TD run yesterday; something like that to keep the defense on its toes would be great in that kind of situation.

Or, hell, spread the defense out and either throw a screen if we like the look or QB draw if we don't.

For all his warts, a QB like Tyrod is perfect for having a late lead like that because his presence means you have multiple guys that can run on a given play.

Four wide and Shady going in the flat - sets up TT beautifully for a QB draw.

Buffalo should copy Miami offensively.
Put 3 WRs and then put McCoy flexed out at WR and isolate him on a LB.
Kenyon Drake did it and was effective.

Pittsburgh played a time of possession and shorten the game strategy and it almost worked because they were 10 for 15 on 3rd down and their talent executed in the red zone.

Buffalo doesn’t have the horses offensively that Pitt does so maybe their strategy wouldn’t work.

If Tennessee, Buffalo, Chargers end up 9-7 who wins that tiebreaker?

As I think Baltimore with Indy and Cincinnati is going 10-6 unless the Bengals go crazy.

Depends on how they each get there. If Tennessee beats the Rams but loses to the Jags while the Bills go 1-1, the Bills are in. If the Titans lose to the Rams and beat the Jags, Bills going 1-1 means Bills lose.

So basically the Bills need to
Either win out which is tough.
Hope SD loses a game and Ten lose out.
Or have Ten beat LA and Jax best Ten.

That 3rd one is realistic because Jax has at SF which will be tough and if Ten beats LA that would be for the division title.

I really wish Pitt would lose again so the Pats could throw this game but that MNF loss killed their wiggle room.

That's the first simple explanation I've seen - thanks! I think the Titans can easily lose both of those games. I assume we're in if we win at least 1 no matter what, if the Titans lose both?

If Tenn loses out then Buffalo needs a Charger loss as well.

The Chargers have 2 road games left.
Jets are pretty tough at home.
That LA game is going to be a Raiders home game at the Chargers home field they will be using the silent count at home and the raiders will play with pride.

Thanks. I'd love to have the Jets or Bengals game back. Both were on the road, but still games a playoff team needs to win.

That's where it gets complicated haha. A Tennessee win this week actually goes a long ways towards helping Buffalo. If Buffalo can get into a 3 way tie, they have a good chance of making the playoffs. If Baltimore goes 2-0 and Tennessee goes 0-2, Buffalo is pretty much screwed. They lose head to head with the Chargers.

Basically, since Baltimore seems likely to win their last two games, Buffalo could really use a Tennessee win this week.

I honestly don’t think the Chargers will win out.
They lost their stud LB and they always choke week 17.
The Raiders fans will own that soccer stadium.

Buffalo at 9-7 can get it if Tenn loses out and SD loses a game.
So that Tennessee-Rams game can go either way and Buffalo still has a shot week 17.

Or if the chargers lose you want the rams to win over the Titans and then Jacksonville still playing for a bye win week 17.

So what did you expect for a record this year? I'm fairly certain you didn't expect 8-10 wins?

Keep him in place for next year? You want him fired for putting the Bills in playoff contention in his 1st season as HC? I'm not saying he hasn't made a fair amount of mistakes but he seems to be light years ahead of the bullshat we have had in place since Wade Phillips (I think Marrone had us pointed in the right direction but definitely didn't finish the job).

yeah they have only had 8 or 9 wins 5 times in the last 17 years, I wouldn't say that's a real common occurrence. 9 wins only twice in 17 years and the year Marrone did it, New England didn't play their starters the last game of the year, FWIW. There is no denying that McDermott has been left with a tough job to try and rebuild a roster, fight salary cap issues that Whaley made a mess of and build a team with guys that he feels fit the mold he is looking for and by the way try and snap a 17 year old playoff drought. Team was left for dead after the Chargers game by most. Sure he has a ton of work to do and most likely needs a new QB and OC in the off season along with finding some more D Line and linebackers. He also has to get better as a HC and I think he would be first to admit it, he's a rookie HC in the NFL, not an easy task.

This is all confusing, but according to this breakdown, there is no scenario where Tennessee beating the Rams is a positive for the Bills:

Going to be a tough week.

Have to figure 75 penalty yards on Bills' D getting after Gronk, the Patriots will have made it clear he's not to be touched, as they've done w/ their QB all these years.

Gronk will engage, push, shove and then stomp and whine like a crybaby when he's pushed back and there will be flags galore.

NFL will protect its stars in New England.
