This is great! Looks like as it is now we will focus on CB, WR and other depth?

I could see them spending Round1 + Round2 picks on a CB and WR, there will be contributors available. Also should sign cheap veterans at those spots

Alrighty then.
Contract makes it so tough to figure out. I'd rather have him at $9.2m then not have him and have a $7.7m dead cap hit anyway. Post 6/1 cut would leave $5.1m dead cap so that probably pushes it to where that $4.1m savings is worth more than he is.

Stupid opt-out year screwed everything up. Imagine they are trying to deal him for a 7th or anything at all where they only get hit with that $5m hit but if they can't find a partner then he gets marked as a post 6/1 cut.

Yeah, I'm generally a BPA in Rd 1 and that may be a CB/WR but one of those spots has to be filled with a top 2 pick. Other one should be able to be covered with a mid-round pick and/or a vet that gets left behind in FA. Still feel like the only positions I wouldn't want to use the 1st on are at QB, RB and DE. Even coming around on Nakobe Dean or Daxton Hill at this point. Not a glaring need right now, but could contribute this year and save us $10m next year by letting Poyer and possibly one of the LBs go.

Giants signed Tyrod. Are they really going to keep both of our former backup QBs?
Edit. Fromm already cut by Giants.

I think Poyer and Hyde will be here thru 2023 at least, but eventually they will have to draft their replacements. I think the spots where I'd spend picks in order of importance are

CB
WR
G
RB
LB
P

Poyer's in the last year of his deal this year, gonna need to make a tough call.

Poyer has 1 year left and will be 32 before the 2023 season. Someone has to go out of him, Hyde, Edmunds and Milano since there is no way we can carry 6 guys(possibly 7 with Ed) making $10m+ and based on age and contracts, he's the most likely to go.

I would still bet Poyer is here after next season and his contract will be extended to expire with Hyde's. I think they view the next 2-3 years as the window to win and the cap hits can always be manipulated in the short term.

But I'm also assuming Poyer would take another 2 extension that rewards him for his All-Pro season, rather than something that locks him in more long term

Guess they opted for the rip the band-aid off option. Doesn't make a ton of sense given how much dead money is involved but in Beane I trust.

I think the window is open for a decade and not going to want to damage future maneuverability too much. Once Josh's contract fully cranks up next year and more young guys need to get paid, a 2nd safety in his 30s making 8 figures is too much of a luxury. I think Poyer is gone in 2023 and Milano in 2024.
