Was watching NFL Live when the scroll came across. I was like - What? What? What?Did like 10 double takes when a buddy texted me this.
WOW….
The deal also scared tf out of me until I realized it’s basically a 3yr/$53M deal haha
He should be at a high level the next 2 years and then hopefully we load manage and get a strong 3rd year out of him.
Still in shock…
He showed a lot of flashes his first year or two in the league but injuries seem to have really messed him up the past couple years. He hasn’t really looked all that good at anything recently but the hope would be an off-season with our trainers could help bring his athleticism and confidence back.I always thought he under performed as a pass catcher because of those around him and he spent more time blocking. But maybe I was wrong and he isn’t that great at run blocking?
Even as recently as 2020 in a couple games his PFF grades were really solid. Absolutely worth a shot at that price because he has the athleticism to push our ceiling up a lil bit without any downside. He showed a lot of flashes his first year or two in the league but injuries seem to have really messed him up the past couple years. Von is 32. Past his prime, but still really productive. I thought he was around 30.

Yeah I'm an Idiot!!Not Sure you can blame any of it on Beane. McKissic changed his mind it happens. Jones was always a pipe dream, we don't have 17 mill to drop on one guy right now, we just don't.
Probably my worst post on the history of the Internet. I'm an Idiot.Today has been a $_it show for Bean.
I really wanted Chandler
Fitz Please!CB
Backup QB
WR
Yup, same age as Chandler Jones.
Very similar contracts as well.
3yr/53M’ish
Not sure why we had to make ours so bonkers extra to accomplish the same thing, but I’m not complaining.
The longer contract helps the Bills keep the cap hit lower.
I think Von's cap hit is only gonna be like $6 mil this year based on the way it's structured
Yea, it seems to a 3 year deal with 3 years tacked on at the end to spread out some dead cap.
As long as the cap goes up as expected, I don’t foresee those 3 years of some (likely) minimal dead cap being an issue. Beane hasn’t ever done this, and he’s managed the cap to be able to do so.
Also, Allen will be halfway through his contract in 2025 so that might be a good time to re-do his deal and lower his cap hit for the early years of the extension.
As well as our secondary pieces all likely moving on before or after 2025… Tre White a 31 year old FA in 2026, Micah Hyde & Jordan Poyer likely gone at that point as well. We’ll have to draft well to replace them, but that’s close to $20M coming off the books around the time Buffalo moves off Von with the way the contract is structured. Not saying we wouldn’t re-sign Tre, but we have big contracts coming up around the time we may move off Von.
Poyers contract is up after this year, gonna be a tough decision there.
Very tough.
Next off-season we’ll be looking at Poyer, Edmunds, Oliver and Knox.
As of now Knox is the must re-sign. The other 3, I don’t know.
