Buffalo Bills 2022 Thread

Well, with no criminal charges being filed on what appears to be a slam dunk statutory rape case, there maybe some real questions as to what really happened. There must be something that is unknown to the public that gave the police pause.
I for one am shocked that you took this stance. three guys violently tag team a minor (and there is no dispute of that specific fact set) and you want to wait for Im not sure what exactly .. innocent until proven guilty is for the courts ..not for who should be on the football team

My comments were solely from a legal perspective.
I. The police investigated and haven't charged them.
2. Given her age, any sex with her is statutory rape, but they haven't been charged.
3. Which, with 20 years of prior experience in the court room, makes me wonder why not.
4. They could charge them all with the highest charges possible given the allegations (and most of them are uncorroborated allegations at this point) and easily plead down to statutory rape, which is still a felony and requires sex offender registration.

My only point was I think there may be stuff that we don't know which caused the police to hold off on charges. As a civil attorney, you would love to have a criminal conviction in the bag prior to filing your case. You get summary judgment on liability. Then it's just a trial on damages.

In general, I feel that sexually offenses, particularly those that are violent, or which violate a trust, especially against children, are not punished harshly enough. The victims are victims for life, and their entire being is forever changed.
Life in prison, or death (particularly for serial child abusers), would be fine by me.

but we aren't talking about the courts. now are we. we are talking about this stooge being employed by an NFL team. a 6th round pick punter who is replaceable like the lint in a dryer, yet even then the Bills hesitated. Imagine if it was actually someone of value.

Howard and Duke Johnson being released. Howard, I'm not really surprised about. I thought Johnson looked good though

I Assume the Bills did their due diligence on the information then available. They seem like that type of organization. What if the police, (off the record, of course) said there were issues and they didn't believe the complaint/there weren't any witnesses/ the story was fluctuating.

I defended enough people to know that sometimes (not saying that is the case here) people make up accusations for reasons other than the truth. (Different circumstances, but the recent filing against Bob Dylan comes to mind. After some scrutiny, it was withdrawn, with prejudice.). When the filing of the complaint is put off until after the guy makes an NFL roster, that ought to cause a closer scrutiny.

Also, I think the Bills deserve the benefit of the doubt, based upon their track record to date. Could be wrong.

I respect your position, I just have lots of years of experience on these things from the defense side which impacts how I look at these during the initial stage. (How many people thought Amber Heard was a total victim, until she was subject to cross examination?) BTW, part of me hopes she is lying because what she alleges happened is just terrible. The guys could better recover from false allegations than someone could from that trauma.

I guess Poyer knows where he stands with the organization

I could be wrong but there was always goign to be an odd man or 2 out with the Cap and it appears Poyer is likely the first fall guy. He won't be the last unfortunately, with so much $ tied up with Allen Diggs Miller Tre and others its going to be impossible to re-sign or extend everyone

Yeah I'm guessing Poyer and Hyde are in their last years here. There's always restructuring options built into these contracts so maybe we'll see that happen if the Bills stay in close contention.

IMO, it comes down to age for Hyde and Poyer. I think Poyer leaves after the year and Hyde stays for maybe another year after that.

yeah definitely going to be some cap casualties and Poyer looks to be the first to fall. Edmunds is a big question mark too. Poyer wants one more big contract for sure and looks like those talks have stalled to say the least. Oliver is going to want his $ too at some point.

My brother flew out for the game, and he’s saying that it seems like a 50/50 split between Bills & Rams fans
IIRC there were 12 fans who attended their Super Bowl parade.
