My comments were solely from a legal perspective.
I. The police investigated and haven't charged them.
2. Given her age, any sex with her is statutory rape, but they haven't been charged.
3. Which, with 20 years of prior experience in the court room, makes me wonder why not.
4. They could charge them all with the highest charges possible given the allegations (and most of them are uncorroborated allegations at this point) and easily plead down to statutory rape, which is still a felony and requires sex offender registration.
My only point was I think there may be stuff that we don't know which caused the police to hold off on charges. As a civil attorney, you would love to have a criminal conviction in the bag prior to filing your case. You get summary judgment on liability. Then it's just a trial on damages.
In general, I feel that sexually offenses, particularly those that are violent, or which violate a trust, especially against children, are not punished harshly enough. The victims are victims for life, and their entire being is forever changed.
Life in prison, or death (particularly for serial child abusers), would be fine by me.
