Class of 2020 C Eddie Lampkin (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/2/24)

The fact that the portal is closed for entry for the other players. This is very scum behavior on the part of the school who made the offer and Eddie taking the offer. No we should not endorse this behavior by matching after the portal has been closed for entry for the other players. This sounds like tampering to the most extreme. Please tell me this isn’t real lol.
Yeah, if this is happening the way we think it is, it's dirty poker by a lot of different parties.

Not sure I get their logic. Donate to the school for facilities/operating expenses, etc. without corresponding NIL donations and those nice facilities will be housing Division ll talent-level teams.

Edit - not disagreeing with you, dasher, just questioning their logic.
I also think winning teams bring in a lot more money in donations and other things. But, I don't run the school.

Ya know, I played poker at the casino 4 times this week. Had a terrific week. Was going to play today but was a bit ill last night. Boy do I wish I would have gone to the casino. It least I wouldn't know about this for a few more hours.

He took more money. We would all do it. How about we stop acting like everything is fine and start solving the problems. We didn’t play the game with Jesse and sunk a season. We didn’t play the game here and likely sunk another.
This is different considering we have other players on the roster that couldn’t make the same decision at this point since the transfer portal is closed for entry.

How about football where we are on the other side of that?
We will need to see some wins first, but it is definitely looking better than basketball. How did we get here?

Embarrassing. But why would we expect anything different from a staff that hasn’t built a coherent roster in a decade.
The last decade doesn't matter in this landscape. All that matters is todays$$$.

Or, hopefully it means the university is focused on its academic mission first.

Plenty of studies that show how successful athletics boosts the academic profile of a school.

And in the alternative scenario of not committing financially to being competitive, not so sure we don’t see the academic profile take a drop with it.

Agreed. If this is their viewpoint then even more reason to ask for a refund on tickets next year.

Football seems to be doing something right, I’m not sure what the heck is going on with basketball. I hope we didn’t throw away an entire season for a couple hundred thousand bucks.
Going from a possible 22 win tournament team to a 12 win dumpster fire will cost a lot more than a couple hundred thousand.

Same here. I'm about done.

I’m super close for BB

For obvious reasons I’m not for FB but when Fran leaves I’m likely done. He and his staff are unicorns and we’ll never have a coach and staff like this again.

College sports aren’t what they were when I grew up. You watched a player for at least a few years and saw them grow, develop, etc. There’s no buy in for me with the players anymore. I’m happy to have them on the team but I don’t get too deep or excited about watching them play because next year they’ll possibly be on the other bench.

I always loved colllege sports and got more excited than my pro teams. That’s shifted just in the last few years. NFL teams, your favorite player will likely be on that team for at least 3-4 years.

it’s really not worth it to get worked up over or sad about. Not like we were a final 4 team or even a sweet 16 with Lampkin. expectations should be zilch. Like as low as we’ve ever had them.
This is pretty much where I am at, without a legit point guard Lampkin wasn’t going to change much.

But wasting our one year with Donnie Freeman is absolutely criminal.

They did pay Jesse last year. Twice. He was never going to come back to us because West Virginia was always going to re raise our bid. At some point, you make your best offer and if it isn't accepted, you walk away. And that is what happened and that is what we did.
Yeah I get it, trust me I do. I’m a partner at an Am Law 200 law firm and I negotiate big deals regularly. I don’t negotiate against myself and I don’t re-deal without good reason. Much of it protecting my reputation which serves you later. However, we suck, and every year it feels like there’s an excuse. I’m at the no excuses stage. Find a way to be good. Don’t care how. And the fact NIL keeps biting us tells me it’s a bigger problem than Jesse’s shady negotiation tactics. Unless something changes, I’ll assume it will keep happening and we won’t be good.
