C William Kyle (NE) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (3/27/25)

i dont understand why people cannot understand this

unless donnie gets a whole lot stronger in the offseason.

he needs to show he can cover the 4 before he tries to cover the 5s

(im hopeful and assume he will be better on D as a sophomore though)
That’s not a progression. They are different guards, especially in today’s game where most everyone plays 4 out.

Are we even looking at the same guy? He did not even play Kansas State in a season finale. He played OK state and had 19/15.

He would be a lot better than the 11th or 12th best center in the league. He had 11 games of 3 or more blocks this year. He averaged over 2 blocks his junior year in 22 mpg. He had 19/7/4 against Memphis who went 29-6 this year.

We need defense, rebounding and a dunker at center. Thats what he is. We aren’t going to sign someone to throw it in the post.
Sorry I meant Ok State...he played K State earlier in the year

Jesse didn’t average 12 until his jr year. Ballard is only a year behind on that timeline. You are arguing semantics too much here
He averaged 10 his soph year.

Ballard averaged 10 his 5th year senior year? Nothing I posted was wrong

They are both developmental bigs who made big jumps. What is so controversial about the comparison? I was just making it clear on what year Jesse made the leap. Ballard was hurt his first year at Wich St so that added a year to his development.

so like ...im afraid to ask...do we have confirmation that Kyle isnt locked in as the starter next season??

last season I thought carlos would be a decent backup...when he was signed everyone assumed he was the backup...until...the season started...
In the article, Kyle says starting was not promised and he would have to work for it and said that’s how he likes it! He wants to earn it!

I really like this guy. He reminds me of Jerami Grant with some Conrad Mcrae rip. Based on nothing but my imagination and watching a 30 second highlight.

I just want this kid to be voracious about getting defensive AND offensive rebounds. And when he does get offensive rebound, don't bring ball down to waist level, go straight up take shot, preferably a dunk.

Good article by Mike Waters in PS today. Kyle never even asked about money. He was impressed with how much the coaching staff knew about him and how upfront Red was about where he needs to improve. Very blunt with his assessment.
I mean, he said his agent deals with that.

And I'm sure if his agent said "they aren't offering the number you set" that would've changed pretty quick.

Was a good interview though at face value.

Jonathan Givony has Kyle rated as a starting center.

Been looking at his tweets as well...am I correct that this database of his is not actually published anywhere so all we have to go off of are his screenshots?

I found this video of his time at South Dakota, before transferring to UCLA.

Two take away points. He is much more of a post player than we thought. He has a little skill, and didn’t just big boy everybody in the lower league. He’s got a little baby hook that seems to be hard to defend, he just has long arms and gets high when using it. He also protects his shot well with his body.

My other takeaway is just how much bigger he got in his year at UCLA. He physically looks like a different player in his UCLA highlights than his previous year highlights.

I wish we had a Strength building program at Syracuse.

Anyway, this video is pretty good, (although non HD for some of it, apparently South Dakota is still in the Stone Age) but even if you don’t care to watch it, watch the plays that start around 3:05 in the video. Kyle is going to be fun to watch run in transition. He is a Grant, Warrick class dunker. He’s going to be fun to have in our team.

It’s nice to see his baby hook actually get over the front rim. Lampkin drove me nuts this year with all his hooks never getting over the rim. This kid’s more polished offensively than I thought. He was basically a dunker at UCLA.

I would imagine Kline's database is bigger and more thorough.

Would love to see what that database looks like. Even after recruiting season is done, maybe just post your list Kline?? Wishful thinking I know.

He actually helps off of his man and blocks shots! Talk about something we didn't see at all last year.

It would be interesting to see it, but that will never happen.

I think Eddie got better toward the end of the season, but for most of the season he was firing laser beams at the front of the rim.
