C William Kyle (NE) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (3/27/25)

Another video of Kyle at UCLA. This one has many of the same highlights, but includes whole possessions, sometimes on the defensive end as well.

Maybe I forgot what good basketball looks like, but I can’t imagine why he got so few minutes at UCLA. Maybe the coach just values 3 point shooting instead of dunks?

Well, one thing's for sure -- this kid certainly pounds the ball with authority.

Doesn't appear to be a refined offensive player, but he runs the floor well, gets off the floor quickly, and he dunks the ball HARD.

As long as players like this know their roles and their own limits and stays within them, then we are all good.

Those must be all his baskets if he only averaged two points a game, but very impressive. You can see why he shot 70% from the field. He looks like he passes the smell test.

6-9 230, 7-3 wing span, 44 vertical, athletic, rim-runner, DPOY as a sophomore in MVC conference - rolling the dice on those traits does not seem unreasonable
Personally i would put big money on a point and great forward at the 3 spot. Get another solid kid at center and focus on one that can defend bigs. Dont worry about scoring.

You need an interior scoring threat. It doesn't necessarily have to come from the 5 and is doesn't have to be big numbers. But, you have to make defenses account for the interior in half court sets.

I fully agree with your point about a true PG. But, so far It looks like the emphasis will be on finding versatile players that can impact the game with the things they can do well instead of focusing on traditional position based skill sets.

He sets good screens, and knows enough to roll to the basket for a pass. That's a good thing and he seems to catch passes well.

What do you think of our forward combo of Freeman/White compared to the rest of the ACC?
Better. Probably around 10-12. They have the talent to be 6-8 but Autry doesn't know how to use Freeman

Only 1.1 turnover per 40 in conference play last season. He seems like a “get ball, dunk ball” type offensive player. I am way more enthused by this Kyle than any of our transfers from last season, barring Lampkin. I was very high on Lampkin.

He dunks with a vengeance. And the dunk is a very high percentage shot!

He’s a powerful athlete and I think he’d pair well with an experienced point guard. I know everyone is down on Elliot Cadeau but he could find him for lobs.

With Kyle on board I would want a more offensive center. Somebody like Austin Rapp from Portland would be my first choice

Absolutely not. He can’t guard anything close to a 5.
i dont understand why people cannot understand this

unless donnie gets a whole lot stronger in the offseason.

he needs to show he can cover the 4 before he tries to cover the 5s

(im hopeful and assume he will be better on D as a sophomore though)

Good thing is the ACC isn't that much better than a mid-major at this point.
with the likely NCAAT champ, though

next season will be different...this was a wakeup call to the conference, imo

You can’t be serious. Ballard is good.
He's not bad. But let's cool out jets. it took him 5 years in the AAC to average double digit scoring. He has a chance to be a solid C in the ACC but wouldnt expect much more than that.

so like ...im afraid to ask...do we have confirmation that Kyle isnt locked in as the starter next season??

last season I thought carlos would be a decent backup...when he was signed everyone assumed he was the backup...until...the season started...
