Carl Nassib

Instead of locking the thread can you just ban those posters for like a year? No one will miss them.
A--men. Or feel free to direct them to me, I’d be happy to chat with them.

More importantly, much credit to Nassib. People should be free to be who they are. The consequences of not doing so are utterly devastating. I hope he empowers more people, athletes and everyone else, to know there folks here who are supportive of them.

it’s sad that anyone would say anything negative towards this guy.

Its a big deal to come out as gay while playing in the NFL.

It’s not his fault and honestly not his choice that he’s gay (and it’s also not a problem or a “fault”), just the way of the world.

I give him the biggest props for being courageous enough to come out, while still actively playing football. Hopefully, this is the process of starting to normalize it

May I still occasionally self deprecate? (not defecate).

I guess In the light of this thread maybe joking about being gay isn’t that funny. I get the normal jokes, but I can’t imagine they are really helping things.

Being first has to be so scary.

It's funny how easy he'll be able to monetize this if he chooses. That's how you know the world has completely changed: an athlete can make more money by coming out.
Is he considered “the first” because the kid who played/signed with the Cowboys (Michael Sam?) came out pre-draft?
BTW- I can’t wait until personal items such as this are not news, or newsworthy.

Both PSU and Syracuse offered him a preferred walk-on spot, so he chose PSU because his entire family (and the state of PA) are huge fans and it was closer to home.

He blossomed into something that I don't believe ANYONE thought he would.

Not going to fault the staff for fock's sake. Recruiting undeveloped kids is an inexact science.
Prescient

Yes I believe he is the first openly gay player on an NFL roster. Sam went undrafted I believe and never made the final 53.

My humble opinion, if there were disparaging remarks…those posters need permanently removed. Zero excuse or room for that BS.
agree 100%. Whoever made those remarks should not continue to post here. No one will miss them nor want them as fans of the Cuse

It’s hard to say how many others he’s helped by doing this. Maybe this gives other athletes, pro or amateur the courage to follow suit. At the very least, he is a role model that kids can look up to. The donation was also a nice touch as well. Happy Pride, Carl!

Wow amazing courage, hope he is accepted well and not shunned. The amount of guts it takes to do this is off the charts. Here's hoping the league has evolved too along with the rest of society (most of it at least).

It's gonna be a legit sociological experiment.

Good for him. I hope we start to see this in all sports. It’s 2021 and we got way bigger things to worry about than whether other people are gay/straight/bisexual/etc etc etc…like what uniform combo are we wearing week1?!

In many other walks of life, this isn't news. Unfortunately as progressive as sports have been in several areas, the culture around male sexuality has been toxic for too long. Let's hope that changes, and this is part of it.

BTW, that this site seems to have a filter on the word "sexuality" is pretty dumb.

At least it doesn’t get auto-deleted.

Like the letter between E & G does.

Or the word sh’t spelled out.

FFF that sh’t. ;)

This country has made remarkable progress in terms of accepting gay people. In 2004, half of American adults felt homosexual relations between consenting adults should be illegal. Today, only 18% of adults feel that way. That's a surreal improvement in a short amount of time.

But that's still 1 in 5 people that think Carl Nassib should be charged with a crime, which is why it's so hard for so many people to come out. And probably contributes to why gay youth are 2-3 times more likely to attempt suicide.

You really can't overstate the importance of what Carl has done.
