CDRW

CDRW will be very good for us down the road. The coaches know that. There’s a reason he was already getting the 2nd team reps basically the second he stepped on campus. He is very talented and just needs time to learn the system a little bit better. If CDRW came in last year, I think he beats out Garrett for the starting job but he didn’t, so Garrett is the best QB for us right now.

Now I wouldn’t be shocked if Garrett leaves this upcoming season because he knows CDRW is waiting in the wings. CDRW is a much more accurate passer and has a much better arm than Garrett. Garrett has a lot better legs than CDRW and is a playmaker with his legs. CDRW can move the chains and extend a play but not the same way Garrett does. I will say, both QBs have a moxy about them that we do well with. Dungey, Garrett and CDRW are Dawgs and are similar in the way they carry themselves and that’s the QB we need to be successful here. They are all very similar players. And not to get anyone too excited but CDRW is by far the most naturally gifted QB out of the 3. That does not mean success, but it gives your team a hell of a chance. CDRW will be the starter next year and he’ll light it up with Gadsden, a year more mature Hatcher, and lequint coming out of the backfield who is a great catching back.

Leach is a brilliant fool to right?

But there are a few board regulars who believe the same as me but I'm the only one foolish (or stupid) enough to go on record. Either way I don't care. I love GS the football player just not the QB. They are mutually exclusive.
Mutually Exclusive means you can't be both. Let's see. Can you be a football player and not a QB - yes. Can you be a QB and not a football player - no. Stop trying to be someone who is not a GS hater. It is what you are.

Are we still bringing up the Leach thing again?

So for you three, two of which have always been GS haters….

We’re the first 6 games flukes???

Just curious what your explanation is on that and the numbers/play he was having
Let’s get this straight.

He was a horrible passer last year. I said on numerous occasions that he needed to work with a swing coach. if observing the obvious equals hating for you, you need to reconsider your definition of hating.

Guess what he admitted he needed to be better, he worked with a swing coach, he got better. Between that and a better system I fully expected him to improve and be better. I went on the record with that I expected 2900 and 24 tds this year. I guess expecting a player to double his production equals hating the player.

His efficiency has been really surprising, but the production is about what I expected.

all of the above being said doesn’t mean its hating to recognize his mechanics are still poor and that limits his upside.

but you stick with the “always hate“ nonsense if that works for you

Wasn’t lamson 2nd string in the spring game?

For the record, Shrader was working with his QB coach before last year. That wasn’t a new addition.

Anae has been good, but I'm surprised he hasn't been more creative like i saw at Virginia.
SU's first year with this offense. It is a marked improvement already and I expect we will see continued development.
Just like the D. First year with the 3-3-5 we saw improvement, but the improvement in year 3 is dramatic.

CDRW > 1 legged Shrader.

2 legged Shrader > CDRW, right now.

Future looks bright, everyone enjoy.

And no comment on if I’ve said this about past QBs who turned out to be a bad fit.

(I have).

yes, if Leach doesn't want you as a QB, then you are trash. he has all those national titles to back him up.
Too many people get hung up on a QB throwing a pretty ball, the only good throw is a catchable ball.
Untill I see whether our young QB has touch on his throws he is in the category of wait and see if he can do the job.

Interesting...not to mention the irony. The "always hate" nonsense isn't any different than your, and some others here as well, who like to spew the "negativity" label with particular posters. No?

The “he has TOO strong of an arm” is kindve a new one.

Like, I get it if he’s rifling short passes 100 mph.

But some of these drops were downfield.

Heck, one was thrown 30-40 yards down the sideline. There’s no excuse and it’s not the QB’s fault.

Wilson is throwing those Super Tecmo Bowl “condition: Excellent” crisp lasers. On the money. Catch the ball.

I like shrader. He has struggles passing and reading the game over the past several games. This wasn’t only against Clemson. He makes things work with his running and being so dynamic. But he really doesn’t have a good feel for the passing game.

He looked amazing against Louisville.

He threw an incredible pass to win the game against Purdue and that play will go down as an all time SU football highlight, but I think he was 13-29 that game? He struggled for a large part of the Virginia game - which we were extremely fortunate was not a “what the effff” loss.

He’s a great runner - one of the best at escaping sacks and then running for a first down - back breakers for the opponent. On designed runs or RPO keepers - he is incredible when he gets a head of steam in the open field and even when it’s well defended he often gets 2-3 more yards than it seems he should because he’s a monster and athletic and tough.

I freakin LOVE the guy.

He’s an improved passer but I wouldn’t say a particularly good one. He went from bad to ok….but he can both get hot, and inexplicably pull an amazing throw seemingly out of nowhere.

He’s not always great at reading things, but sometimes can compensate for that because he’s got that “backyard playmaker Magic” ala Dungey.

He helped us to 6-0 and if he’s healthy and can run like normal, he should still be the guy.

But if he can’t….it sucks, but it is what it is. You can’t have that guy hobbled and trying to sit back there in the pocket. We won’t win another game.

Is it speculation, if it is based on a whole 2nd half? That’s 2 quarters. Devito was anointed the next QB savior based on less than that.

This is what I said earlier too. Couldn’t agree more. When completely healthy he is dynamic and is hard to control. But he is not good in the passing game. The Virginia game we were extremely fortunate and they were not a good defense or team. We are so dependent on his legs to make plays due to his inability to make quick reads and unload the ball. Definitely leaves a lot to be desired in the passing game.

Like Nassib tattooing guys from 4 yards away.

Ended up being a great QB for us, but man, touch was not his gift.

I see a 5 yd hook, it’s open, let me just…. RIFLE IT IN THERE AS HARD AS I CAN

Shrader having a 148 rating against FBS exceeds all my expectations. My expectations were low because of his inaccuracy. Part of the reason he's exceeding expectations is because he's gotten better - good for him. Another part of the reason he's exceeding expectations is because this is a good offense that makes it easy to throw to the right players at the right time. It's a bit like how a bad basketball offense that creates bad shots will knock down a guy who actually can make open shots. This offense, especially with competent assistants gives QBs good open looks. When he struggles this year, it comes from him alternating between not pulling the trigger and forcing it to Gadsden

But a 148 rating is pretty good and it's a lot better than other QBs people went gaga over here

QBs looking bad vs better defenses with more talented players is a thing that happens. GS didn’t change - the defense got better and he was more banged up.

We’re in a better spot than traditionally, and starting CDW doesn’t mean we’re saying GS sucks.

I compared Shrader to Ryan Fitzpatrick earlier this year. Gamer, etc but when he's off, you know it immediately. Both guys play a high variance game, they throw into tight windows, hope for the best lots of "It's just going to be one of those days" a couple minutes into the game.

Shrader happened to have a bunch of games in a row where the coin came up heads each time - fitz had stretches like that. But not having the arm will eventually bite you with both of them

So in that way he didn't change, I know ND is talented and i know he's hurt... but some of those throws and decisions...

Fitz was pretty good but teams always wanted to move on because they saw the ceiling. Lots of times the guy they went to wasn't as good. I think there's some of that going on here. Honestly, I am looking forward CDRW to be the guy next year but this year, he's probably not any better when both guys are healthy and shrader has earned his job
