Center recruits

Wonder if we are keeping tabs on big jimmy that came to our elite camp this summer. 6'10 and built like a beast. No skinny bean pole...we gotta try something different because our approach to recruting certain types of 5s isnt working the best.

isn't this the kid who deadspin claimed may be a 20 year old nigerian man posing as a 16 year old?

This kid may be re-opening his recruitment before too long. I figure by March.

Sean Miller and his staff doesn't appear to be long for this world.

I know that in another thread some people were putting down Buddy Boeheim’s offer from Gonzaga saying that Few doesn’t get many high rated recruits. Just saw that Gonzaga has the 4th ranked class for 2019, so their recruiting must be improving. What I don’t get is how they got three 6’10” four star recruits in the 2019 class. They had already signed a 4 star 6’10” recruit this year (2018) too. He seems to get quite a few European players.
They have a real Euro/Australian pipeline going. Come on Few, you don’t need all those bigs! Share some with your good buddy, Jimmy B!

2 juniors who have seen plenty of minutes in the middle, one high ceiling freshman to learn the ropes

there is no point in kicking over rocks for marginal guys. unless a high end talent suddenly becomes available (highly unlikely), jb is set at the 5 next year. he rode less on his last final four run

Ehh the guy he rode ended up being a first round pick and set the tournament block record.

that's hindsight
going into the season, you had an oft injured dc, an undersized roberson who could never play to the level of his talent, and an unproven skinny freshman

I really don’t like Marek playing the center spot for long stretches. He’s completely out of position there and gets totally banged around and even struggles to block shots from that position. So I think that’s a terrible plan for next season. He needs to play on the wing in the zone. He’s great at the close-outs on the wing and when they send it into the short corners.

i agree he's better there. but he's experienced & available at 5 if need be. my point is that all this handwringing over another center is excessive ... boeheim will have enough on hand to make it work

I hear you. For what it’s worth, I’m feeling better about Ajak now. I think he could be a good player for us. I just wonder if he’ll be able to contribute as a freshman since bigs are always slower to develop. hopefully he can give us some minutes and that Sidibe can get back to showing the promise he did very early in his freshman year. I think he’s still struggling to recover from the off season knee surgery.

Agree on both counts.

I think SU needs more at center. Marek is quite good, especially in the right matchups. But more is needed.

I don't think JB is panicking though. I would like PC back but the board here thinks no chance of that happening. The center can just be a defensive specialist, which should make it easier to get. I think SU could have Carrigan but is holding out, maybe for a transfer or euro. Should be an appealing spot for a decent player.

No big wants to play for SU
Why be so negative? Last year (or two ago) we ended up with a good player late in the recruiting season that we knew very little about. Anything can happen?

I mentioned in a different post that Boehiem did a interview a little while back and he said something to the effect that he does "12-18" recruiting visits in a year, TOTAL!! And leaves the recruiting mostly up to his assistants. When you look at his success we cant question his methods. But Mark Few, Izzo coach K, and Ewing and ft he coach at UCONN those guys do 12-18 visits per month it seems. Rge UCONN coach is always sitting in high school bleachers even now during the season. The whole UCONN staff was at the Monteverde game last week. And Hopkins has been to 3 of Stewart's high schook games so far this year. With his time on the bench winding down it might be time for JB to pick up on the recruiting..... especially to the big men as we are ok on guards and wings next year. BUT WE NEED A BIG

Scouting is different than recruiting visits, which I take to mean meeting with the kid, family, etc.

Agreed! I took it as he leaves Syracuse 12-18x per year TOTAL related to recruiting whuch seems absurdly low. The interviewer thought so also which prompted the answer that his assistants do the recruiting. Again we really cant argue with the success he has had, but with his reign coming to an end soon and the future uncertain i would really like to get a good big to go with the ridiculous shooting we will have next year.

it might not even be out of the question that bobby braswell sees minutes as a small ball, pick and pop 5

I hope he's been practicing well. He should see time next year.
