the odds of having a great offense are lower when you spend so much of that money on a defensive coach.

we should hire a head coach accordingly rather than just hoping for the best.

fix the offense. focus the money on offense. get by on defense and hope for the best
I can respect that opinion. I'm still not convinced that we're doomed by hiring a defensive guy, but I get what you're saying.

He could hire Chip Kelly and the Dome wouldnt be sold out next Aug/Sept for the opener against Colgate.

If you have an entertaining team that scores points, the fans will come. You have a better chance to draw fans losing 45-42, than you do winning 13-10.

If attendance gets worse or stays the same hes gone. Totally different landscape than 10 years ago. I'm all for supporting the program, but if it's more conservative football with no upside, i don't know if I want to re-new my season tickets to watch 4 hours of punts. I can do that watching the Bills on TV on Sundays.

I don't think Syverud brought in Coyle to deal with Fball attendance. Im just telling everyone if you think the new chancellor is firing Coyle anytime soon regardless of how fball plays out your in for a less then pleasant surprise.

I agree on an Offensive HC. But, I don't hate the thought of Ash. The thing about bright, young and innovative guys... They typically know bright, young and innovative guys.
Ash knows how to stop the spread, maybe, JUST maybe he knows what to look for in an OC that can run it :noidea:

i'm not saying we're doomed. i'm saying the odds are worse. we always try to do everything the hard way.

"the offense is broken. ok we'll try scott frost for 2 million. no frost? ok i guess we hope chris ash knows somebody for 400k."

this is a lousy process

Syracuse responds to winning games regardless of the score.

step 1 to stopping the spread: be the most talented team in the country

sadly not that transferable here

So if we remodel the Dome and Attendance gets worse because the product stinks nobody is accountable?

Okay thanks, didn't know it was just talent that stopped the spread.

No the coach will be held accountable just like when Robinson was let go.

who else besides factories stops it?
Not sure, don't really have the time to research it at the moment. Time will tell what happens I guess.

So he was hired to sustain the success we had under gross, copy.

If it's Ash I'll be disappointed. Not that he can't be good, but that the door marked "quickest way to explosive offense" will stay closed for another 4-5 years.

Really? So you know who the oc is as well? Do tell...

Pretty sure there looking for better results especially fball wise but there not firing Coyle in 2-3 years if fball is still struggling

Posted this in the other thread, but wanted to post it here:

Sorry if this was stated, are we competing against any other school for Ash at this time? Is it us versus... us right now?

Does anyone know this?

We better be bringing in an OC who is experienced and can ring it up. otherwise... ugh. The good news is Ash will probably be voted the worst new hire, the last time that happened was with Marrone and he worked out... hey, I am trying over here..

How does one get into coaching?

Seven figures a year. Is this a really competitive industry? I'm assuming yes but just curious. Why does it seem like so many coaches are terrible yet still get paid so much money to coach a game? Not saying ash is just in generaL.

All these guys start off coaching like JV?

My favorite part of this whole idea of hiring Ash:

1. Coyle hires his buddy from Oregon = "GREAT HIRE! HE ALREADY KNOWS HE'S GREAT!"
2. Coyle hires a guy that he may or may not have met at school before = "GOD DAMNIT. HE JUST WANTS TO SURROUND HIMSELF WITH PEOPLE THAT HE ALREADY KNOWS!"

Last time we hired a CO-Defensive coordinator we............sucked. Now how did that work out?
