I agree - I think the only time he will cross my mind is when he has a game like at NC State and he gets some pub for a 9 made 3 pt in a half barrage for some school.I have no ill will towards Bell but he's one of the guys who I won't think a thing about once he leaves. People like to say he regressed this year. I think it was more that he peaked last year and this year played back to his normal (Freshman) level. The stats are very similar. He's not a starting player on a good team.
Head west, young man.
If I was Bell, I'd take Stanford in a heartbeat.
Syracuse Irony, as defined by Webster:
Never could understand how he could be so athletic and intense on the come from behind amazing blocks. Then nothing for the rest of the game?Syracuse Irony, as defined by Webster:
Chris Bell heads home to Cal or Stanford. Proceeds to road trip to Syracuse, NY where he is booed vehemently to the tune of 7 out of 8 from deep. No free throws. No two pointers. 21 points, 1 block from behind on the fast break.
He wasn't a starting player on our bad team either.I have no ill will towards Bell but he's one of the guys who I won't think a thing about once he leaves. People like to say he regressed this year. I wasn't gonna say that, but, yeah.Head west to an ACC or BIG school.
TL;DR - The Chris Bell Experience™
In my opinion, the above clip from the Virginia Tech game is the quintessential Chris Bell play. Here's the series of events. (I attempted to link to the video at the 39:12 mark, which is the start of the play.)
1. Syracuse inbounds from underneath the VT basket to Bell.
2. Bell passes to Lampkin and cuts to get open.
3. Bell is open for a pass for perhaps a fraction of a second, but he is very close to Lampkin and even if he does catch the pass, the defender probably recovers to force a tough shot from Bell in the corner. Lampkin holds the ball.
4. Bell turns his back to Lampkin and throws his palms up as if to say, "What? I was wide open!" Then proceeds to take a couple of steps OUT OF BOUNDS, COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO THE ACTION.
5. Red claps, gestures, and screams at Bell to run the baseline to the opposite corner to give Lampkin room to operate. (The sound of the clap is audible on the broadcast.)
6. Bell takes a couple of hard strides to the opposite corner, and then slows down to about half speed as he begrudgingly sets up.
7. Lampkin takes a few dribbles to back down his man and a double team comes.
8. Lampkin throws a skip pass to Carlos.
9. Carlos quickly passes to Bell, who is WIDE OPEN.
10. Bell knocks down the shot.
To sum it up, Cuse ended the possession with 3 points, but had to endure a lot whining and loafing to get those points.
I honestly wouldn’t mind holding onto him so we have a knockdown shooter on the roster. But probably a terrible idea. The portal is funny. We're happy for Bell to move on. A school like Memphis is excited to get him.
I stuck with him for as long as I could but I am looking forward to not having to watch stuff like the clip above in post #118.I honestly wouldn’t mind holding onto him so we have a knockdown shooter on the roster.
