Cisco possibly out for the season???

A backdoor hedge that the Defense won't be worse without him? That's a ridiculous proposition imo. He has had his flaws (as ALL our players do) but he's been a huge playmaker on the backside of the Defense and is much better prepared than anyone replacing him from a physical and experience standpoint.
Maybe him ending up isolated in coverage was a flaw of the Ward defense and not something that would be problematic in the 3-3-5. Haven't watched enough of this defense to particularly notice.

Freak thing during warmups is crazy. I’d sit to. The plus side is they get to prepare a year early without him.

I appreciate you trying to see the glass half full, but this is a bummer, to say the least. I have a hard time seeing the "plus side" in this instance. We (maybe) lost arguably our best player to a season ending injury 3 games into the season, really 2 games! Yes, our younger guys will get more run if he is out. But would it have been better if he got hurt for all of last year? We all knew he was going to the NFL. That would have given one more year to prepare for not having him.

I don't like looking to next year (especially only 3 games in), which is what we seem to do almost all the time, over the last 15-20 years (2018 and maybe 2-3 other years excluded). I personally want to enjoy each and every game this season. We've got an AA and a surefire NFL player. I want to see him out there all season. Really sucks if this is true. Feel bad for him and the team. The guys on the team are playing for this year, and if Cisco is out, it makes winning games even more difficult.

Most of us don't see all the other things that influence overall production. Individual tackles and takeaways are noticeable. Run and pass fits are just as important because it effects the ability for others to make plays. Just being in the right spot most of the time helps the defense overall. On top of that, having players on the field with leadership skills is huge. They know the ups and downs of ACC football. They can re direct and encourage the unit when adversity strikes.

Hanna is very active, plays hard and he is not afraid. This has me excited to see his progression once he put on additional size and strength but I fear the same things you mentioned. I don’t like to rain on parades. That’s why I’m reluctant to comment much during the season. I don’t want it to come across as negative to you guys. I just think like a coach and watch the games that way. I wish I didn’t but I can’t help it. Lol. I see a lot of good things that are sustainable but I also see things that can be exposed down the road.
I wish you would post the positive and negative. A coaches perspective is much appreciated. I'm sure you would use tact with anything you said.

Once a coach, always a coach, especially when watching the team we love.

I'm sorry you don't like to look at next year, but in case you hadn't heard this is a throwaway season and basically doesn't count for much of anything.

I'm good with not having to break in new safeties next year.

Whether or not this is true, is unbelievably inappropriate to post about someone in our family who just had a season ending injury which surely negatively affected his draft stock (and future income) though we hope it’s not hurt too much

also some NFL team is going to display a disagreement with Hales tweets by drafting Dre in the first 3-4 rounds. I’ll side with the NFL teams

you should consider deleting your post
He should delete his post because you disagree with his opinion? Now THAT is so 2020.

So, Cisco really does have the dreaded potato knee.

Huh.

If you press lightly and hold your finger there, the reaction options should pop up. At least they do for me.
Make sure your Style* is “Pub Only”.

Yeah, hard to blame him if he's taking the safe way out. If we were 3-0 or even 2-1 with a close loss, I might think a tiny bit different, but we're not even close to 3-0, so ...

It doesn't work on my samsung. A different menu appears. [Frown emoji].

Check my post from a few minutes ago. ;)

Why is everyone talking like it would be Hanna replacing him? Is LaBrosse's injury that serious?

Losing Cisco would be tough and would count on multiple guys stepping up to replace him, but LaBrosse brings the physicality and was maybe the most touted recruit last cycle.

Benefit of the bye week is giving you a little more time to cross-train someone for downhill running teams if both Cisco and LaBrosse's injuries are serious.

I think if you play the games and it counts, it's not a throw-away season. I still would like to see SYR win 5 to 6 games or more. But, I agree, it will be good for all these freshmen and young players to get experience.

Really need to win these next two games against Duke / Liberty.

Then have to get Wake and BC. Can't afford to stub our toe in any of these games to get to .500.

Yup. I think it’s because Hanna led the team in tackles and had a INT. It’s good to know he is capable but labrosse earned the back up spot. I wonder if Coley can fill that role as well?

Don't get me wrong, I still want a winning season but ... lets hope next year the lights get turned back on.

Cisco I don't think would be much of a factor in our toss up games. I fully believe the defense will be fine with or without him right now. We're not winning unless the offense gets on track.

pretty much has played out that way.. if the offense was decent we are 3-0 right now playing a ton of kids on D.. Not sure how that holds up over the whole season, but the one team that would have been issue running it is BC and so far they cant run.. Wake may too with the stupid hold the ball play. ND/Clem would be major upsets no matter if we held them to 10 we still might lose

Extremely unpopular opinion time.

His absence won't be as significant as it may seem. David Hale was tweeting stats all summer about defensive backs, and Cisco ranked at the bottom of several metrics among ACC DBs (Including one of the worst QBR against in the league). In many ways, Cisco was a liability last year. While he is fantastic when coming up to the ball, he was awful in coverage and got beat over the top repeatedly last year. I was at the Louisville game, and he was picked on the whole time - and got torched numerous times.

Maybe he was victim of scheme and/or worked on that element of his game in the off-season. But the D played the same without him on Saturday.

Yup, it will be unpopular, but it's very accurate as I too, believe AC has alot to prove and improve on. So , yes, playing and improving his resume should be the goal. His angles on wrs and support on the run game needs vast improvement. It isn't scheme as he was burnt multiple times playing in 2 deep safety coverage last year.

A good portion of his picks were very opportunistic and yes, you cant teach having a nose for the ball. He should be looking to improve as I think he is a 3-5 round pick and of course will depend on the safety talent pool and team needs in the draft.

Cisco is a ball hawk but he isn’t as good in pass coverage. He bites a lot on double moves.

He is a playmaker but the one position on defense we have depth is the secondary.

I just hope Cisco stays on the sidelines during the games and supports his teammates.
Players need to take care of themselves this year and the amount of wins we get doesn’t affect bowl eligibility.

Good point and hope he does too. Players , coaches, and even scouts notice the interaction thing when injured. I think he will. He seems like a great and respectful kid. If you dont support your teammates on the sideline, it's a bad optic. I bet he will take the high road, hell, hope he is on the field!

Cisco is a strong safety not a free safety.
The free safety has to be better in pass coverage.
Strong safety plays closer to the LOS, makes more tackles and gambles for picks.
Cisco has been burned when he played away from the LOS and was the free safety.
The Louisville game last year I remember multiple times he got burned when he was the free safety.
He is a good player and can’t wait to see him go pro he isn’t Grant Delpit. He is more Jamal Adams type.
Adams isn’t good in coverage he got abused by Julian Edelman but put him closer to the LOS and he makes plays.

Cisco isn’t a free safety.

I agree, he isn't a free safety but he will be asked and need free safety skills in the NFL to make an impact. In this NFL, you need to run and cover in space AND tackle in space. Thus any safety, free or strong needs to have cover skills and run support skills ...and able to diagnose plays. A unique skillset making these players and category elite athletes.

AC doesn't have the size to play at the LOS and thus, the reason his coverage misses are magnified when evaluated by NFL guys. An NFL safety and corner are some of the best athletes in the world, right there with the NBA players.
