Coach Search Options after Autry

Let’s hire a coach that averages 87 ppg and out rebounds their opponents
by 6 per game, nah we choose the guy who averaged 70 and got out rebounded playing zone.

But he's a really good guy.

He bleeds Orange.

JB will throw a tantrum otherwise, and we need to avoid that negative publicity.

Plus, who else could we hire anyway?

Wish there was a way to gather a petition quickly and get it to the search committee with a very scathing letter around fan support falling apart should they choose Lykes/Hop. It would need a well known influential face behind it which is the problem…

The season we are living right now shows that is exactly NOT the case.

We had the NIL to build a competetive roster this season and did.

The terrible coaching has been a hurdle we can't clear to make this team competitive.

You simply have to have a competent HC otherwise you are wasting NIL, like we are seeing now.
You are missing the point. Last year, we already had a coach in place. You need the NIL to attract not only the players but a quality coach. Any premier coach is going to be looking at the budget they have to work with before accepting a job.

There isn't a search committee. It is Hopkins and Melo telling everyone how much money they will bring in and everyone agrees. No real interview or qualification checks or anything. Hey I am going to bring in 15 million in NIL Cool you got the job.

I’m talking about the AD search committee.

Does Hodgson know how to navigate the complexities with the Dome being multi purpose with Football, Lacrosse, and Women's Basketball. Potentially having to wait till gameday to do walkthroughs. Hopkins does. This is another argument in the pro Hopkins camp. Doesn't the away team also deal with this when they come to play us?
Oh no!!! That’s like rocket science combined with quantum physics, all at once. Who but Hopkins could figure that out?

I think we just need the BoaT to look through the JB coaching tree and see that, outside of Pitino who really wasn’t there long enough to count, the JB coaching is very unsuccessful. Like Hopkins, Red, Murphy, hart, Malone, Orr had a couple good year but not great, and GMac is to be seen. Most others never climbed out of the assistant ranks. Probably for a reason.

I was just thinking about failed coaches that went on to become big winners. You guys might be too young to remember the NY papers when Joe Torre got hired by the Yankees. Or the reaction in Boston when Terry Franconia was hired by the Red Sox. Throw Bill B in to that as well with the Pats. People can learn and they can get better. That isn't to say I would hire Hop. I wouldn't. But the amount of Nil that we are talking is eye opening. Is it a sugar high? 100% yes. Is it the long term answer, I think not. But I have been wrong before and so has everyone on this board. The good thing is the answer is coming. Sooner rather than later.
I don't think Baseball is a good analogy. I have always thought that managers don't make of a difference w/ Joe Torre as my prime example of someone who suddenly became much smarter with a Steinbrenner budget. As opposed to Football and Basketball, a guy like Bill Parcells and Pat Riley are successful everywhere.

I bet one thing liked about the next AD is that she will come cheaper than other candidates.

We are cheap nobody can tell me otherwise.
I would be happy if they really did cheap. It's overpaying for mediocrity that grinds my gears.

Crap, I think GMAC would be better than Hop now.
Wouldn't Melo back GMAC like he would Hop?
I'm going to guess the powers that be have zero interest in GMAC right now (despite having more relevant success and experience) which is why the basketball alumni are backing Hopkins as the family option. We need to be rolling the red carpet out for Hodgson and if you can unite the donors for Hopkins and Hodgson into one pool for Hodgson. We will be a national championship contender. That's not an over exaggeration. When people say Syracuse doesn't have access to resources they mean Syracuse doesn't have access to unconditional resources, that is the problem, too much conditions on the resources to really limit the ceiling of the return on investment.

Melo and GMac famously didn’t get along during the 2003 season. Boeheim had to mediate (I believe it was after the loss to Rutgers that things came to a head).

Obviously that was a million years ago when both were young, immature adults. But who knows if they’ve ever been close.

If we hire Hop I think you could argue we wouldn’t even have a top 5 coaching staff in New York State. I’d probably rank it St John’s, Bonnie’s, Siena, Oswego, Herkimer, and then just maybe Syracuse.

Yeah and as someone making a case for needing an elite staff then posting what he had at UW.. I mean come on. Then add hiring Lykes and it’s almost to the point of why bother having athletics anymore or stay in a P4 conference?
