Not to mention why wouldn’t Gerry want to live in Wellesley or Newton vs Albany area? It’s a no brainer no matter what the cost of living is. He would be paid well enough to afford a nice house

As someone who moved out of Boston and back to the Albany suburbs, not everyone wants the big city lifestyle. I get the sense Gerry & family are happy here and that is why they left Syracuse for a similar environment (living wise)

Unfortunately my friend just missed Hodgson at USF, so he didn't have anything firsthand to share. I thought they overlapped, but I was wrong.

Boston’s good for the Uber wealthy. It is unaffordable for even upper middle class people. I have friends and coworkers making in the 200’s that can’t afford to live anywhere close to where they work so hello to 3 hours of commuting a day.

Like my buddies on Long Island that can't wait to move out of there because they've been dragging their butts on the LIRR for 40 years of aggravation. If you have a good job and live in upstate NY, you can basically write your ticket to a nice lifestyle.

Turnovers are turnovers and they still play forty minutes. You also need to take into account about teams that shoot poorly. When you have poor shooters, it’s easy for defenses to just play your passes, which also leads to turnovers. When guys don’t look at the basket, they usually have more turnovers. SU’s guards are a perfect example. You’re correct that it’s apples to oranges. There’s a lot of reasons why teams turn over the ball. Playing fast doesn’t always lead to turnovers. Usually they just shoot it quicker before you get a chance to turn it over. My issue with Hogdson is has he done and proven enough to warrant the SU job? He might kill it, but can SU really take that chance? I’m just skeptical at this point in time. I think we all want the next coach to be successful. I just want someone with a longer track record at a higher level with proven success. Unfortunately, that might not be an option.

Hodgson has already turned around 2 programs in year 1. I’m not saying he’s Hurley but it’s so obvious the fit is perfect and he’s a potential program changer … this isn’t Chris Holtmann

Hodgson has only been a head coach for one more season than Gerry.

Both of them are 17-8 this season.

When a team plays at a faster offensive tempo, they have more possessions. So if they average x number of turnovers, it isn't as impactful as a team that plays a slower tempo and has many fewer possessions and averages the same number of turnovers.

So while the number might be the same, it is in fact vastly different based upon the tempo. Turnover percentage is a better indicator.

They also out rebound their opponents by 5 per game including 41.6% of their own misses. It leads to them shooting 3 more shots and 4 more free throws per game than their opponents.

I’m not going to squabble about .5 of teams offensive possessions, but teams that can’t shoot are prone to turn the ball over more. Neither percentage is anything to brag about.

Ok….so my wife is an academic and as a result we have lived in Baltimore, Chestnut Hill and Charlottesville. I was raised in DeWitt. Here is the deal….the DeWitt Wegman’s is the 2nd Wegman’s in the entire system. It is a bit of a Frankenstein as it has been cobbled together over decades as their model has changed. It is way too large in my opinion and the only thing fun about it is the possibility of running into Jim and Juli Boeheim. The one in Baltimore is nice but too far outside the city and thus we never went there as it just was not compelling enough to make the hike each way and burn up an entire morning. The Wegman’s in Chestnut Hill / Newton has a great wine and liquor store….which was fantastic during COVID. The store itself is competing with Star Market which has a great fish department and made it the default winner for us. Finally the Wegman’s in Charlottesville is new-ish, the right size, really good meat department, bakery and prepared foods. Their subs and sushi are really good. So overall, the one in Charlottesville is my winner today except for booze during a pandemic which gives the nod to the Wegman’s in Chestnut Hill over the other Wegman’s.

If food is the deciding factor for where I live next I will pass on all the Wegman’s in the world if I can get a local butcher with a delivery boy on a bike.

Recruiting is College Basketball yesteryear. NIL is the recruiter…..nothing else. We’ve been told here that not only don’t we have the money to get the top recruits, we also don’t have the money to get any top shelf coaches. The most informed people on our board have unfortunately told us as much. It feels like everybody is jumping ship at the same time here ( Sevyrud, Wildhack, Frazier.) After learning what we have in this thread, it’s obviously not coincidence. Doomsday has sadly arrived.

6.8 is correct

USF averages 78.5 possessions per game
Syracuse 71.7 possessions per game
