BH will do fine with NIL. He has everywhere. Hop is illiterate when it comes to offense. It would be an abomination of a hire.Id rather BH… by a lot.
But it’s hard to make this statement if the magnitude of the mentioned NIL funding is a possibility. That’d allow for top tier assistants and portal talent. Thats whats needed in this environment. The games degraded to this point and will continue to get worse.
A good coach can struggle with a limited war chest in the P4. A bad coach can make the tournament while funded. It’s a horrible time in sports. Evolve or die.
*ducks*
Skip ahead. Not much has changed since then!Jesus you guys. I read like 15 pages a day and still can't catch up. I'm way back on page 148.
Get ready stilettos…..We need to face reality here you have our most celebrated player in basketball history arguably who has his son on the team that may prefer hop from what I’m gathering and assist in putting a winning team together? I don’t see how Syracuse uppers says no to that….I just think given this variable it’s a far bigger chip that plays a huge part in this entire process. Hard to deny it but we will see how it plays out
Red’s a bad coach who’s losing or has lost the donors. So he’s the worst of each world.Just so we're clear, where does that put Red?
Are we now at the point in the season where we blame "not enough NIL" was the problem again?
I feel like we have skipped that part and gone right to "hire another JAB legacy" is the answer...
It's not an acceptable answer.
If their budget stubbornness is true then we have the stupidest BoT and AD in the country. You paid 2M a year a decade ago, inflation impact alone has that amount nearing 2.7-2.8MThe university looks at the entire amount they are on the hook for though. And yes it is 3.5-$4m to hire a top coach so are they going to shell that out? What if Hodgson says that’s what he deserves. There’s no way SU is making a $20m commitment to the guy. Hence why these others are in the conversation. They want to be at $2m a year. They have always been at $2m a year. Problem is $2m a year is a joke when you look at average salaries for these coaches these days. BH makes about $750-1m from what I researched tax free in Florida. But he’s going to get some offers that far exceed $2m a year and that’s where there is going to be a problem for cuse
Or at least make the school more competitive academically. If you going to throw away the sports angle that can draw in applicants then 90k a year should at least be enough to be a top 30 school. The fact that we can’t seem to climb into the top 50 academically is ridiculous. Hate the ranking system all you want but the game has been played the same for 20 years and we keep dropping.I agree with this statement. Stop dancing around and masquerading as a top ACC program. If you can’t find money from the 90k tuition the school is forcing students to pay and other methods of cash that private universities have at their disposal, then say it.
(This will never happen) if they are as behind as what’s being said here, then the AD and chancellor must focus on one revenue generating sport and throw the other aside.
Melo was a Hall of Fame player. That doesn't mean he knows what makes a great coach, or how to run a college basketball program.Get ready stilettos…..
And who knows far more about basketball than anyone on this board.
In the meantime let’s keep on with the narrative that the only acceptable coaching hire is someone that most haven’t seen coach a game or hadn’t even heard of three months ago.
I’ll watch the process unfold and support the program next year with at least some level of trust that proper due diligence and an effective process will be followed.
I can’t see how he gets granted it. Aguilar had basically the same background of 2 JUCO years and got denied. I assume every court going forward will use that as the precedent setting caseFWIW, I believe there is optimism should Kingz request an extra year.
IMO, Melo could offer great insights into effective offensive production; especially for forwards and shooters!Melo was a Hall of Fame player. That doesn't mean he knows what makes a great coach, or how to run a college basketball program.
I've been clear that I don't know much about Hodgson or if he'd be a good hire for SU. I'm not stuck on him at all.
However, I don't "trust that proper due diligence and an effective process will be followed". Not given the current rudderless state of SU leadership.
I laid out what an executive-level hiring process for this program should be dozens of pages ago, and I've yet to see any evidence that's being followed. Sounds a lot more like Game of Thrones.

How's that going for Kiyan?IMO, Melo could offer great insights into effective offensive production; especially for forwards and shooters!
This is a really unfortunate mindset, and I hope the decision-makers on the hill don't fall into it. Hop has already failed as a head coach... badly... and we are living through a season in which the phrase it's not what you have, but how you use it has never been more apparent.Id rather BH… by a lot.

Unless it is like $50-75m to endow a player warchest that can fund itself in perpetuity, then it is not sustainable and I would still want a coach who can win with what he can get.He did, but what he has planned for the next couple is monumental
Hopkins for HC, Gross back as AD and hire Zombie Mel Eggers for Chancellor! It’s a foolproof plan!!
