I can say this with certainty - Melo has a package of $30 million (and growing) lined up for Hop. This includes nba players, local guys and a few that have never donated to cuse ever before. The plan is to front load that money for the first 2 years to immediately become relevant. But that’s what the deal is for Hop from Melo.

Well, apparently if this is the way it's going, I hope Melo knows a couple really good assistants to put on Mike's staff, too, or it's just burning money.

It actually does, the Curry Hicks Sage twitter guy was talking about donating for influence and power. Which only gets more prevalent when the positions of powers are held by lame ducks. The situation here is ripe for this kind of activity. Also being a private school there is really no mediator for it at the moment.

"Hope Hop can coach" is not a plan, regardless of the $ attached. This isn't complicated.

I don't doubt that Hop can teach individual players to be better.
But I don't believe he has the tactical chops to actually (a) implement offensive or defensive systems that work, or (b) make in game decisions that will help win games.

I like women’s basketball and it’s certainly growing in support, but not even close to where it needs to in order to really move the needle and generate revenue.

Yea it’s brutal.

Trying to think about what if anything can get me behind Hop.

I would need to see a top 10 portal class come in and be top 4-5 ACC. I’m not dumb enough that the smoke either of these 2 crews are blowing our way is going to get us better than Duke, UNC, or Louisville but we better have better talent than UVA, NcSt, SMU and Miami next year then.

And no what ifs on if these portal guys make big jumps.

We gotta get pretty much the best 1 and 5 available. Not to mention legit assistants.

If I see those things happen with actual top players signing pen to paper to come here under Hop and Melo then maybe I can keep an open mind.

It is the education system if Haynie is the guy, he will not be picked unless he has agreed to this political struggle. Stuff like this happens in the educational system all the time. It is rare that 3 massive positions are open at once but Haynie knows what is going on, and his first action will not be to rock the boat either way if both sides of the money came to an "understanding" regardless if it is bad for Syracuse. Not how things work in the educational admin field.

I think it is that Melo is "comfortable" with Hopkins [who wouldn't be? He was the good cop for many years, including when Melo played at Syracuse, and people love his personality].

But this year did NOT unfold for Kiyan the way that I'm sure Melo envisioned, and hiring Hop versus an outsider would not only [1] guarantee Melo access to the new coach, but also [2] ensure that Melo would be able to take a more active role in actively managing his kid's second year at SU. Not sure he gets that access with Hodgson.

I am attempting to project KA. Jason Cippola, A little light on the shooting and a little more on the driving ability, a little less on the court awareness, and a whole lot less on rebounding, strength, AND defense. This would be a projection as a senior 3 years from now. Lawrence Moten that is absolutely absurd. I do however think as was Jason, He can definitely be a very good basketball player. And just like Jason he needs a whole lot better players around him. They better get this right. KA, Super nice kid for sure, Good basketball player potentially in college. That would be a ceiling for him. Would love to be wrong as it relates to that. if they think they can actually build around him on the prev JB subpar teams sort of like players like Dave Johnson they are crazy. Except now if it did not work I do not know if we would recover
