Well yeah, in no way am I implying we should get a med school, because that's not happening.
Reopen the Nursing School, Expand Premed/ health related programs including physical therapy. Expand Neuropsych department while continuing to grow life sciences/ Computer Science/ engineering infrastructure. All the while unequivocally considering development of a veteran centric medical school with VA involvement locally and downstate.

If we build a legit roster, and Kiyan is still coming off the bench, but contributing and playing a bit more than this yr, I truly believe Melo will be fine with that. He’s not an idiot.

Agreed, think he's at least worthy of an interview. Did great at Xavier, got into a weird situation in Louisville, but we have seen far far worse in college hoops. He's got another good job in him I'd think.
What's so disappointing, and I realize we aren't privy to candidates reaching out or even interviews, is the lack of any names like this being linked to us. Mack would be a really solid hire. Jerrod Calhoun. Chris Holtmann. Richard Pitino. Instead we are staring down Mike Hopkins and nostalgia.

Then came Covid and his record for those 2 years was horrific but I dont blame him for that - there were horrific records all over the country. The two Covid years were a combined 20-38. Again I completely discount all of this.

I don't understand the logic. Covid hit at the start of the 2019-20 postseason so it had no impact on his regular season. And EVERYONE was dealing with Covid in 2020-21. Did Washington have the entire team out sick for a bunch of games, beyond almost any other team or something, and played walkons? If not, it was like any other season in terms of some teams having good records and some having bad. If you're going to totally discount Washington's record do you also totally discount JB's final Sweet 16 at SU that year?

I don’t get the Chris Mack love. The guy had one good year in 4 at Lville and got fired. 2017 is a long way away from when he had a great year at Xavier. I mean he coaches at college of Charleston now

2017 is a long way away, but 2019 is OK? :-) Mack is like 10000% more qualified to be our coach compared to Hopkins.

Kiyan is a college player - that will get better - but he's skinny - driving to the rim with slow feet - trying to find creative ways to lay it in - guards like Harper and Castle drive to the rim looking to dunk over NBA bigs or blow past them with speed - Melo is aware that Kiyan will never play in the NBA

Watched the Spurs/Nets game tonight - SA drafted the best player in 23', the best guard in 24' and then the best guard again in 25' - my lord - already the best team in the NBA and half the team can't purchase a Miller Lite

Mike Hopkins best season was 2018-19 ---- 27-9 .750 winning percentage

Chris Mack was equal to that or better 4 times in his coaching career

Mike Hopkins has a career winning percentage of .524
Chris Mack has a career winning percentage of .679

Chris Mack in 2019-20 had Louisville ranked #1 in the nation

Mike Hopkins has been to the tournament 1 time
Chris Mack has been to the tournament 9 times

But like what is all the hype about Mack when we could have Hopkins :-)

The spurs have to.be the luckiest organization in sports, not a knock on how well.run they are and how great popovich was, but the bball gods have been pretty good to them.

I know the pandemonium in this thread is causing people to lose their minds, but this might be over the top insanity... Forget about his mismanagement of a roster with Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper last season, this year Pikiell's squad has followed it up with some eye-sore inducing metrics, including the 5th worst average distance on 2-point shots. That style of offense belongs in the basketball wasteland that is Piscataway, not in Syracuse.
Again, the two choices in the hypothetical are Pikiell and Hop. I'd rather have the guy that took a tire-fire Rutgers program to the NCAA tournament over Hopkins. I didn't say over anyone else.

You mean the guy who went 15 and 17 with two top 5 picks, and is on the verge of three straight losing seasons, with one ncaa tournament win to speak of. There was a time where I would have taken him that time isn't now
He took RUTGERS to the NCAA tournament. That in itself is more impressive than Mike Hopkins ever did. Read what I wrote. I would take Pikiell over Hopkins.

I do not want Steve Pikiell as the head coach of Syracuse basketball.

I don't want either retread. let's do up and coming Schertz, Hodgson. Why choose someone who failed at the same level if you don't have to?

I don't want Mack either, but I would much much much rather have him over Hopkins and Mack wasn't fired because he failed at Louisville. His winning percentage was overall at Louisville was .636, including having the #1 team in the nation. There were things going on behind the scenes of the program that got him fired, which was later found out he was not directly involved in, but the University cleaned house.

This is a fascinating thread. Fascinating.

One thing I'll say is this. And you can take it however you want to take it.

Oftentimes, someone in a top position in their field (HC, AD, etc.) learns a lot of things to do and most importantly, things NOT to do. Sometimes the things they should not have done hurt them to the point of losing their job.

There have been many, many people in the world that have done much better, some markedly better, the second time if given the opportunity.

For one thing, in those first two years when they went 48-22 they only made the NCAAT one, and weren’t rated above 47 in the NET. So maybe the schedule had something to do with that record. And the “respectable “50-46 is similar to what Red has done, but Red’s record was in a tougher league. And I think everyone here agrees we don’t want someone the same as Red.
He took over a team that went 9-22 and got them to the tournament in two years and won back to back coach of the year awards. That can be a success and we can still rather not have him be our coach. Both things can be true. We don't have to take a crap on everything he ever accomplished

Where do you live?
I am staying at the Crown Royal in Manama. Leaving tomorrow to head back to work in Riyadh. I am about 1/3 of the way through my agreed-upon stretch here, but other project managers from our Saudi office keep saying we will reevaluate and then make a decision after 3 months. Little do they know I have already done that, and 3 months in the desert are enough for me.

I could potentially be talked into coming back after getting stateside for a couple of weeks, but there will be some renegotiating. LOL. I miss my wife, kids, and my dog Chipper Jones.

If something pops off in Iran I will be home sooner I am sure.
