Coach Search Options after Autry

Curious what is soo special about Kline?
Just clean the house fully.
It's been documented here before. Started a Recruiting website when he was 14 and partnered with Rivals. He was hired as a consultant by the NBA while still going to school at SU. Hired as full time scout with the Pelicans at graduation. Hired as a full time scout for the Knicks. People are just going to dump on him, so I'm not interested in going over more than that.

Can’t wait for the meltdown when Hop is hired.

Edit: for those not familiar that is the board sarcasm font. Syracuse having Klines experience is a strength and not a weakness.

I agree. I grew up in Syracuse (Westhill). Went to Siena and came back after college. Been down in Lakewood ranch the last 7 years. I would need a godfather type offer to even THINK about coming back north.
The thing is, the south isn’t for everyone. I would never live in the south, culturally and socially. Weather isn’t the be all and end all. Why don’t people get that? And speaking of weather, much of the deep south is unbearable in the summer, whereas the Northeast is wonderful in the spring, summer and fall.

I don’t know Kline from Adam, but I can’t understand the “hate” thrown his way in these threads. The kid is obviously very talented and dialed into the new age of scouting. By all accounts, people here who actually are in the know say that he had a great list of talented portal players prepared for this season. It sounds as though we went after some of them and chose not to go after others to save $$ for the next season. If so, that is Red’s problem and why he is on his way out.

If we are able to keep Kline, I think it’s a plus, especially if we have a staff that’s not afraid to spend the resources we do have. If we don’t want mediocrity, our decisions need to reflect that mentality.

All the responsibility for the failures of this season are on Red’s shoulders, not Kline’s. The kid played his part.

If Hodgson ends up here. We are going to get serious talent. He’s a really good recruiter. We’ll see what assistants he gets too. He needs at least one closer on staff. If we keep ONE person on this staff I wouldn’t mind it being Straughn. He is a young coach and a really solid recruiter.

Also I’m good with getting rid of EVERYONE else. But wouldn’t mind if we kept Anthony (just perception wise would look bad if Melos kid transferred). Keep White as he’s an athletic freak ooozing potential with the right coach would killlll it. White is also a good defender, hustled and brings the energy which we need in this program. And keep Kingz if he gets another year. Everyone else, respectfully I’m fine if they leave
That’s the thing. Hop is a dynamic personality and was a great recruiter for Syracuse. But Hodgson is the same and built his reputation as a bulldog recruiter, and he’s been in that game more recently. So he neutralizes Hop’s one advantage. In terms of proven system and ability to teach that system, there’s no contest. Hodgson has a proven, fast-paced NBA style system and knows how to teach it (not just as Head coach but when he was helping Oats build Buffalo and Alabama into a power), whereas Hop had 7 years to show his chops at the P5 level and failed. Why risk hiring him again at this level? It’s too important of a hire, and you can’t get it wrong.

I don’t get it. I know Hop and Red aren’t the same, but how can such an influential swath of donors be so ready to get rid of Red that they scrounge up the money for his buyout and at the same time are so eager to go back to the JB assistant well? It doesn’t add up, to me.

It just means we’re delaying a Syracuse basketball resurgence for another 3 or 4 years.
By that time the next round of league expansion will have occurred. While having a resurgence in hoops before that happens is not material compared to football, it still wouldn't hurt.

I know it probably won’t happen. But Hodgson as the head coach and Hop as top assistant. We’d be sooooo back. One can dream right?

Some have said that these donors want to maintain some sort of "ownership" of the program. Fortunately Lally supposedly wants to put money behind Hodgson.
