Coach Search Options after Autry

As a jets fans I would really be stuck in a pit deciding if Gase or this would be worse. But if you combo it with Lyke it’s gotta be worse….. leave me in the hole I’m stuck with Aaron Glenn anyway….
Glenn is the perfect tank commander. Arch in 27.

No. It's the Chancellor hire that is imminent - as in tomorrow. The AD will follow. The AD will NOT have unilateral decision making power in who the new HC will be.
You might need to explain the word unilateral to the crew here :)

I can.

Think "unibrow" but with a lateral...

Gmac has proved nothing other than he’s a decent coach. We’ll see how he does the next few years. He’s just not ready for the SU job yet. Honestly, his offense doesn’t look much better than Red’s. But the idea that Gerry has no interest in the job or wouldn’t take the job if offered is laughable. Of course he would. Maybe he’s staying on the sidelines to allow Hop to make a play for it. Who knows. But neither guy should get the job at this point in time.
Why would he take the job when (1) both Red (who wants to keep it) and Hop desperately want the job, (2) he would have to be brain dead not to realize that the majority of fans desperately want a coach outside the SU family (terrified of the Boeheim taint) and (3) has a pretty nice setup at Siena as a rookie coach. NO real pressure, he is the savior.

I would just sit back and watch if I were him. Not to mention, he has to still be a bit salty that he was passed over for Red. He wouldn't be human if he wasn't.

Besides, he does have a lot more growing to do.
One day he might even be the hot coach everyone wants, time will tell.

Gerry is not an option - partly due to Gerry making it known he has no interest in this job for various reasons, partly because TPTB cant really take him now when they barely considered him 3 years ago.
Makes them look really stupid for picking Red in the first place.
Sometimes seniority and optics should not trump who would actually do the best job.
JB wanted Gerry, maybe they should have listened to him if they were hell bent on an internal hire.

But in no way, shape or form should he be automatically discounted because he is part of the SU family.
He has done one hell of a job at Siena - and if he should get them to the NCAAT, it would be their first trip to the big dance since 2010. He got them to their first 20 win season in six years, 20 wins after only winning 4 games two years ago.

I personally find it offensive that he is being grouped with the bad coaching of Red, Hop and Hart.
He is not them and should be judged on what he has accomplished, not on being an SU alum.

I completely understand if many feel he doesn't have enough head coaching experience to succeed at the pressure cooker that will be SU basketball next year. This is a make it or break it year.
Gerry and Hop are just not good enough.

The reason I get so heated about Mike Hopkins, and this has nothing to do with Hodgson, is simple there are zero basketball reasons to consider him a viable candidate.

His tenure at Washington Huskies showed nothing that suggests he’s capable of succeeding as a head coach at this level. He didn’t just struggle, he flamed out. If Washington had been a bad situation and Hopkins was a good coach, the logical next step would have been to take a lower-level job, especially on the East Coast, and prove that point. He didn’t do that.

Instead, what the tape shows is a coach who could still recruit decent enough but was behind the times strategically. His offenses were stagnant, his defenses were outdated, and his teams consistently looked unprepared for modern college basketball. Frankly, what Washington looked like over his last five years is exactly what we just watched this season with Syracuse. Talk is cheap. Tape matters.

On top of that:
-He hasn’t coached in college for the last two years
-He hasn’t been immersed in East Coast college basketball for nearly a decade
-There’s no evidence of schematic growth on either end of the floor

If he didn’t play here and wasn’t once an assistant here, his name wouldn’t even come up because by every objective basketball standard, he’s not a qualified candidate.

That’s not emotional. That’s evaluation.
You laid it out better than 3 hours sleep 2 coffees down the hatch bong rip me could have explained it earlier lol
it likes when we lay out some of these topics you’ve said the conversation seems to often stall because there’s been noreasoning in the support for MH that’s actual substantiated in analytics and basketball reasoning. It always halts at money that no one can confirm right now is upwards of the rumored $s(im not saying it’s not true I’d believe it’s true to some extent but the exact #s like everyone has said you’d need proof of) and personal relationship to the program. When this is all happening after the past half-full decade of similar actions it’s even worse.

I'm trying to decide what I would rather be. A B.C. fan or a Jets fan? I think B.C. They at least have hockey
Yeah I’d lean towards agreeing at this point especially because being a rangers fan is also not fun right now the way they seem to screw every situation up. In the end, I have a hockey team to look forward too lol

I actually meant all that, didn’t word it quite right. I was posting it right before I had a meeting and typing as quick as I could.

I am more concerned that the administration is gambling on who they hire and making a really bad bet, lol.
Yea plus speed makes me think it’s someone they already know well. Makes me very nervous that it’s “internal.”
