Coach Search Options after Autry

That's what I was getting at. If they offer him 600 plus I would assume he takes it...
I don't think money will be a top three influence in GMac's choice about what to do next. He knows the next job is the key to getting a major P4 job. You have to go to a place where you have the support of the university, local fans and NIL donors. The money will come if he wins.

I think gmac to Providence would be a great fit. The big east is a little down he can win there. I'm assuming hes catholic too.
PC or BC for Gmac contrary to the wine and cheese folks here think About the backwoods of chestnut hill (west Providence is kinda back woods). PC has a real fan base and interest. To me that job is sneaky good.

Agreed, I'm not sure the pay bump would be what would drive him there. If he thinks it's a better setup there to make the next leap, that's what the draw would be. I'm not sure if Bonaventure provides that or not.

Agree. While I don't want him to be the next SU coach, it's not because Gerry's stupid. He knows what he needs to be successful. Cstate has mentioned previously, before he even agreed to be the Siena coach, the donors had to step up with NIL money.

I think GMac really likes Siena and will stay there, finish the job of raising Siena’s reputation with his own, till the right job comes along. I doubt a university like the Bonnie’s admitting they will be decreasing the head coaching and probably the assistant’s salaries because of a money issue with adequately supporting the sport, would be appealing.

I can buy he might have some interest in Providence. But not BC, and I'm not just saying that to give you a hard time. Just being honest about where they stand as far as institutional and donor support.

He’s gotta be pretty close to this number right now. I’m guessing as assistant at SU, he was making close to what that head coach was making at st Bonny

I think GMAC's offers will depend on whether he gets Siena to the NCAAT.

If he can pull that off, St Bonaventure, Providence and BC would probably kick the tires on it.
If he could win a first round game in NCAAT, the offers will no doubt increase.

As I said before, I understand why he wont be hired here this year.
But, boy, did TPTB shoot themselves in the foot picking Red over Gerry 3 years ago.
So his offers all hinge on the game Tuesday night? I agree that his visibility increases the further his team goes, but I don't think one game will make that much of a difference to teams interested. They can see the turn around which has occurred.

Agree. Say a kid misses a game winning free throw - so Gerry is out of luck? That seems short-sighted.

Will there be more excitement if a team can introduce Gerry as an NCAA tournament coach? Sure

But in the big picture, he's either a coach that can lead your program in the right direction or not, regardless of one game.

Keep giving me a hard time. I deserve it half the time! I act think pc works w their fan base. Working class town with a working class Irishman.

BC should look at him. I agree he may not be ok w it. I know for a fact Hopkins was a finalist when they hired Christian. In NIL world it has changed but he toyed w it when he was a legit coaching candidate. It’s a nice place to live and the wives love it. Happy wife happy life

Siena's most recent 990 for 2024 had Carmen Maciariello making $370k. I'm assuming Gerry is making a little bit more than that. Bonaventure would be a pay bump, but apparently not as much as you'd think. Schmidt was making $1.5M and the rumor is that they are looking to hire someone at a salary half that amount so that they can put more into revenue sharing for NIL.
Heard Schmidt was closer to $2M.

Bonaventure has history but with the new world, it's becoming more difficult for smaller schools who have history and not a lot of donors to compete.

Not sure that'd be the right next step. He could stay at Siena for a bit if he wanted, waiting for the right fit, rather than jump at a quick buck.

I think he will stay at Siena for at least another two years.
I think he wants to build something there - win a regular season championship, make the NCAAT a bit,
win at least a first round game. Establish a culture that can endure after he leaves, assuming they make a decent hire.
Plus the fans love him there, his players love him, his family loves it there - I just cant see him chucking it all for the bonnies, or Providence or BC.

The one thing that I thought would always be a huge plus for him as a head coach is he can set the example.
He can walk the walk so to speak.
He isn't asking these kids to do anything more than he did as a player.
He worked his ass off, never ever gave up.
And they saw with him that he got results - because he put the work in and always hustled.

If Doty and the 6'7" Frosh stay, and the kid from Chittenango is legit - they are going to be tough next year for sure.

they need a couple of bigs. whether that be the guys who were hurt or portal guys. plus it would be good to get another shooter. maybe ducharme will be healthy. being without 3 of his top 6 players he's performing magic. but its got to get fixed for next year.

A couple of the right portal additions and I can see that program taking off. I live in the Capital Region and I think the Siena job is sneaky good. It's a great area and super convenient to a lot of fun places. I'm moving back to CNY soon because I have strong roots there, but otherwise I would be quite content here.

Hopefully they can schedule some high-majors next year and don't have the same issues as Miami (OH) this year on that front.

that's your twisting. what i've said over and over is that a candidate coach will ask what nil is available. nothing more nothing less. every time i say it, you twist it around.
Today the NIL budget as the number one question and the only way you can field a deep talented team. Some exceptions exist when you get a 5 year player like Ryan Kalkbrenner who is not all about money and loyal to a team and coach. B

Peter Carey?
