OT a bit.
But lets make sure whoever gets the head coaching job values talent and the intangibles.
I will never forgive Red for not prioritizing keeping Maliq Brown on the team

But Maliq was the heart of that team and always worked his ass off, without complaining.

By far Maliq was my favorite player on that first Red team.
Just saw on the SU broadcast he was just named defensive player of the year and sixth man of the year.

And for those who said GMAC can't recruit, Maliq was his.

If JB has not torpedoed the program in his final 5 years, the next coach would have had a better chance to succeed.
Four winning seasons, one losing season, the only one in his 47 years of coaching. .500 or better in ACC conference play each year except for the losing season. Two tournament appearances, one Sweet Sixteen, one COVID year with no post season for anyone. Jim's decline as a coach is exaggerated. I get that he slipped a bit from the high-level winning standard he built. He didn't torpedo this program.

You're really grading on the curve there Cooper. Winning seasons is a standard for SU basketball?

Not at all- he’s a leader and commands the room with how he approaches things. It stands out and it shows up with what he gets from his kids on the court including that they all show up as leaders on the court too.
He is able to give a complete thought which may just translate to getting his team to do what he expects of them, which would be a big step up from what we have currently. Just listen to a Red presser then listen to Hodgson or any other coach for that matter. It is alarming and not surprising we do not play consistently or know what is going on

I’m fairly certain Maliq did get recruited away by Duke when GMac was still here. But maybe Maliq knew Red couldn’t coach.

Damn they asked Red he learned most about his failures and he said the portal made things different lol. That’s what he learned
I don’t want to kick a man when he’s down, but it’s really evident Red’s not the brightest guy out there. It’s fairly obvious why he failed.

Yeah no S! I feel like Jim probably realized that 3 years ago! What Jim didn't tell you that before you took the job?

I agree. Yet he’s been on our staff since 2011 and we chose to hire him.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I thought staff changes should have been made after 2019, it was obvious things were slipping. The problem was how would outsider accept being told, btw, we're building the team around my son Buddy. Alot of obstacles and mistakes compounded the previous one to get here. Now what we can't do is placate to a legendary player whose son is on the team and make a shortsighted hire.
