This Providence situation really feels like more of a negotiation tool by BH’s team. I’m not saying Providence isn’t legitimately interested or that they don’t have Hodgson high on their list, but BH has wanted this job forever. From what I’ve heard, Syracuse has been pursuing him for two years now, according to Red’s daughter and Kline’s girlfriend.
Because of that, it’s hard for me to see a scenario where Syracuse loses him to Providence over a slightly better NIL situation.
If you’re looking strictly at NIL numbers, then maybe someone could argue that Providence might look comparable or even better in that specific category. But when you step back and look at the total picture, program history, resources, exposure, and overall stature in college basketball, I don’t see how Providence is a better job than Syracuse. Not when you factor everything in.
