Coaching Lost the FSU Game

Everyone at my house could not understand why Shrader was not under center on the goal line touchdown that we were short on. The next goal line he did go under center and scored easily. Little things like that baffle me. As big as Shrader is you would think it would be common sense.

That was a huge play and what we did run was a ridiculous choice. Who cares if the know we’re going to try a QB sneak, the question is, can they stop it? It’s probably the highest % play in that situation with GS in there. And it was closer to the goal line than the play later they did let GS keep it.

Yes!! Really bad miss
At least two FSU scores were assisted by officiating. FSU got a big boost from the bogus roughing the passer call in the second quarter. And of course the big gain in the fourth quarter that should have come back with a ten yard penalty to boot.

Also, replays of an SU pass at the end of the first half seemed to show a completion, but there was no review of the play. I think SU would have been in field goal range with that completion.

Dino didn't call a TO there because he thought all calls at the end of halves are automatically reviewed with a refs TO, which is what I thought too. The lousy corrupt ACC lowlife cheating refs reviewed about 20 other calls to try to cheat Syracuse.

Don't forget If we just tackled the guy on the fumbled pass backwards late in the 3rd, instead of trying to pick it up, would of saved 4 points. FSU is 0-4 because they played four teams that can throw the ball. Not blaming coaching, but at the end of the day it looked like we didnt have the confidence to expose their weakness unto halftime, neither did we play it safe and take points whenever we could of.

My two DB coaching critiques this game were no calling rime out with 22 secs remaining in 1H - would’ve allowed for time and offense to reset after big play. 2nd was going for hail mary instead of having Andre try a long FG. Don’t have a problem with other FG / 4th decisions - was being aggressive.

One of my Big picture issues is that we don’t seem to be a smart fball team. Not going after ball on fumble TD, not getting QB out of bounds on FSU’s last drive, usually have lots of penalties, etc. We never win the “football IQ” battle.
I seriously believe that Dino freezes up under pressure. Time after time especially when the clock is a factor he freezes like a deer in the headlights. Hes not quick in tight situations almost like he isnt ahead of the situation but rather behind it hence the wasted time outs and strange calls.
Simply put at best he is a mediocre in game coach.

Haven’t read entire thread so sorry if said.

1- the hold directly led to game winning kick.
2- coaching decisions impacted this game big time and were a big reason that number 1 mattered so much.

Both true.

Hated settling for 3 late. The Tucker run just to run the Shrader keep on second didn’t make sense to me. One or the other. Credit to FSU for the stand but it was too conservative for my liking.

Hated the third and 7 call. Why? When have we completed that this year? Such a low % throw on third down! Hated it hated it.
the 2nd down play was worse

I called it on the game thread after Dino went for it on fourth down early in the game that we would be destined to lose by 3 points.

The conservative play calling for the field goal lost the game , atleast try a play action pass or something unique besides just running up the middle . Blame the refs all you want , you don’t leave the game to be decided by them. I will admnit that was the most amped iv seen dino in a game .

There’s a shocker!
Well, Dino made some changes, that should have been done much sooner, replacing Ward and Devito, but he did them and I feel the team is much better now. He needs to make these tough coaching decisions faster if he remains as head coach.

Shrader said after the game we were too predictable in the first quarter and when we started trusting people and moving the ball around our offense got much better. Interesting thoughts.
Love those comments

I have always thought opposing fans who cried about a missed called being the reason their team lost call was weak. So I am not going to do that. Yes, it was a missed call, but that did not cost them the game.
It’s very simple, poor play calling, especially in the first quarter, poor clock management skills and missed tackles were all a much bigger factors.

Well call me weak, I blame the refs.

I don't know if we win if they throw the flag when Wax got held.

But I know we lost and they didn't.

May those refs enjoy taco Tuesday to the fullest and then have all of their plumbing break.

Agreed.

Great. Here’s a cookie.
It’s just a logical critique, albeit a pessimistic one. I just don’t get the new aggressive style of going for it when your back isn’t against the wall. Just take the easy FG. If not it can come back to haunt you. This is conventional thinking.

I’m tired and frustrated. What could have been a 4-1 team with a much larger crowd next week. Instead we will get 3-2 Cuse at home.

that game was there for the taking. Never the less, I’ll be there next week. Just extremely disappointed.

Dino did not coach a bad game, IMO.
I respectfully disagree. Too many boneheaded decisions. Take the points early on. So what’s working. Stop wasting timeouts at the wrong times.
This should have been a win. And we should be 4-1.

I just want someone to ask why we didn't spy Travis. He was only a threat to run. The secondary was playing well. The pass rush was getting pressure. Why was There no spy after the first or second time he scrambled. We spied Willis the whole game and he was a far bigger threat to throw.

Agreed. The general sense last week here was that Liberty’s HC lost the game by being arrogant with going for it on fourth down. Dino did that twice today. I just don’t get it.
