I know... I posted it to the board... Just can't believe the PS never called either directly.

It's been talked to death on the premium side.

Premium side knew about it last month...

...in fact, they're now talking about the new stadium. You should hear about it next month sometime

what premium side???

The premium side of this site is so secret that you have to be invited, complete an impossible task, and be hazed before you get access.

I hear you have to be kidnapped, blindfolded, and taken to a secret location in order to have your credit card swiped, password given, and your breath print taken for access. But they do have a guy making paninis.

I'm sure the PS has heard all of the rumors too. But if they've tried to confirm it, I'm also certain Nolan hasn't been able to get anyone to talk. Marrone knows how to control the media.

-Without some major surprises from guys already on roster, HCDM is gone after a losing season in 2012. Addazzio next.

Why does it matter? If there are changes, we'll find out eventually.

Seriously? Took the one of the worst D-1 programs to a 8 win season in his second year and he's going to get canned? 4 wins or less, maybe he's in trouble.

If there was ever a 5 year job, this is it.

That is false. 1. It was a 7 W season. We played 2 1AAs they both didn't count to Bowl eligibility. He shouldn't get a cookie for beating Arkon, Colgate, and Maine. 2. We were one of the bottom BCS teams NOT D1A teams. Stop making it seem like we were worse than we were to justify Marrone's failings. If you cared about SU FB and not Marrone you wouldn't be so forgiving.

Unless we go 1-11 Marrone isn't going anywhere.

Marrone will get 5 years, with his alumni status, etc the upside of the stability of having him as a long termer is important for many, also if we get moving on the facilities and the ACC status, we should be more appealing to a new HC in two years. I don't agree with it, but he will be here for 2 more years. I would can him if we don't get a bowl game next year and have 3 wins in conference, minimum. I just don't see Doug as having a huge upside, I see a lot of 5-7 win seasons in our future with Marrone, again improvement from a disaster but not where most would like to be.

Agree. But I think he likely gets 6 years. I think he deserves 5 years baring a disaster next season. However I also think in order to give him a fair chance we need to extend him during the Spring. Since SU doesn't want to fire an alumn and eat two years of a contract, I think he will get 6 baring any disastrous seasons. I would love it if Marrone were here 20 years. However he would have to make A LOT of changes because coaching the way he has, there is no way he could be successful (which I define as a 7.5-5.5 or higher average season). Since most HCs are stubborn as hell and dead set on their way being the right way, I think the chances of him changing are slim to none.

Agreed, at the end of the day, if Syracuse isn't willing to up the ante for a really good proven HC then what difference does it matter, hell I would hire Shafer at Doug's price and let him find a really good OC in two years. My point is, if you want proven success one needs to pay for that. No free lunch.

To me the next coach if there is one, hoping there isn't one needs experience as a HC at the college level and also needs to be PROVEN recruiter in areas that Syracuse can be succesful. I don't want to hear hearsay or rumors about what the coach did as an assistant at some factory school, it's pointless. Assistants are fluid and can leave at any time, your best recruiter at SU needs to be head guy, IMO or close to it

We hired the recently-fired head of the FAMU band to conduct said hazing. Good times.

I thought before we played Wake we had a conversation if people on this board would be happy with a guy like Grobe, who averaged around 7, had one nice season here and there, and one bad season here and there. I felt like there was a consensus people here would be ok with that. Of course, that was before the streak to close out the year but I wonder if the consensus is the same.

Hasn't Marrone, himself, said that such a profile would not be good enough?

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

It's obviously going to be at least 5 years. He will get an extension next year. 4 wins or less in 2012 would make 2013 a hot seat, as you say, because we can't keep going backwards from Marrone's own #'s just because of the last coach. Pretty much the only thing that could prevent a year 5 is if, along with a losing 2012 season, all of Marrone's recruits jump ship and say I can't play for him. I don't see that happening.

2012 is probably going to be rough, and then 2013 we're breaking in a new QB. It's hard to keep thinking so long term, but I don't know what choice we have. 2011 reopened some eyes that were closed after 2010. As KingOtto said, 2010 had 3 auto wins out of the gate. It's the easiest schedule we've probably ever had since I've been a fan.

I think year in year out in the ACC, that would be OK, if a nice season is a BCS bowl game then yes I would be fine with that. For a period of 5 years if we had 9-10 wins one year, 8 wins one year, 6-7 for two years and 4-5 wins one year that that is acceptable. getting that 9-10 win season ( not incl bowl game or Conf champ game earns some pretty big freedom. Obviously, some room for error there but you see my point. However, not acceptable in the Big East and we aren't even there yet

I would say Marrone wants to be better than that and all coaches will tell you that but given the lack of capital and the aging facilities at this point that may be about as good as we could do. Syracuse needs to spend money everywhere when it comes to the football program if they ever want to be better than a top 35 program, not saying I agree or disagree but you can't fight a fire with a garden hose, the game has changed. And without some HUGE donor stepping up with an enormous amount of capital, I don't see Syracuse being relevant anytime soon the committment just isn't there. Sure we may have a season here or two but never where we were 20 years ago, just won't happen, IMO. We have sucked for just about 10 years now.

Why? It doesn't always take 5 years to turn a program around to respectable. We went to a bowl last year and should have gone to one this year. Nobody will convince me we should have lost all 5 of those games. It's no longer just about "turning the program around", it's also about winning games.
