Colgate Postgame

JW had to go internal, it was inevitable- and red was probably the most qualified out of those pool of candidates.

If Red doesn’t work out, there is absolutely no reason to keep it to Cuse only for the next coach. I think he’s here for Kiyan but if that doesn’t work out we’re looking for a coach …

Why did he have to go internal?

Ehhhh, 20 wins were decent but any game against a good team we lost by 30. I mean we were non competitive against any top 25 teams. A year has passed and we forget that we had our doors blown off in a majority of the losses.

We beat UNC, we beat NC State 2x and they went to the Final Four. Oregon had 24 wins for whatever that was worth, Pitt 2x.

JW had to. I think you risk alienating a large amount of the former players if you go outside the JB tree. They always preached family for years…. Add the fact that there was no “obvious” outside candidate. It was JWs safest bet. If he went outside the Cuse circle and it flopped, he would have been fired.

Yeah I hate that we didn't do a national search and would like to think I'd have had the guts to do it but the decision made was clearly a very +EV one for ADJW's career longevity. Take every year that you can get in modern big time athletics.

I’ll give you the UNC win but they also beat us by 40. NC State got hot and went on a run but they weren’t great most of the year. Oregon, solid win. Pitt didn’t make the tourney.

Loss by 30 to wake
Duke by ~ 20
Tennessee ~ 20
Gonzaga ~ 20
Virginia ~ 20
FSU ~ 20

The ACC was weak last year also. The 20 wins was inflated and we were bad. UNC being the outlier for one game.

I know.

do you think the other players can’t see he doesn’t defend?
Makes me long for the days when JB would pull a player for not closing out when it was really the other guy who caused the breakdown.

Well DC already feels alienated so might as well go all the way now. Results and success are most important, and it feels like forever ago since we have had either.

Why is it assumed an outside hire would alienate alums? Look at how Fran healed wounds. What are they clinging to other than nostalgia at this point?

Yeah I mean it’s all lining up. This year will be a disaster and I think the Kiyan/Saddiq commitments guarantee him 2025. But if 2025 doesn’t go well, it is pretty obvious we will clean house and go outside completely

Thought the final number was around 600k for Kadary.

Eddie's counting stats were great, he was absolutely sloppy though, he was a major reason they had 20+ transition points and Woodward absolutely worked him the last 10 minutes of the game when he actually played. Woodward's 4th is the only reason we won.
Sorry but I don’t see how Lampkin was the reason we got killed in transition when Cox kept running straight through our guard defense constantly straight to the basket. Lampkin wasn’t guarding Cox and the centers don’t lead transition defense from one end to the other. No one could stay in front of Cox even in half court defense and admittedly Lampkin isn’t an eraser with help defense after our guards are beaten. He did his job though with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and 0 fouls in 34 minutes.

What is scary is that Woodward guy was Colgate’s leading scorer at 15.5 points until our game, so Lampkin did a good job holding him to 6 points and had him in foul trouble. Cox on the other hand was averaging 9.5 points per game and we gave up 21 points to him and JJ fouled out trying to guard him. We’re making opponent’s guards look like all stars going straight to the basket when they play us. That’s a real defensive problem.

Pitt had 22 wins? ACC needs sell itself better (off topic I know).

The Wake thing was an embarrassment. You also listed a 3, 4, and 5 NCAA seed. Year one of a reclamation project - that's a tall ask.

This may be the culmination of a program that has been going downhill since our 2nd year in the ACC(yeah I know we made the 2016 Final Four, but we made a fluky run in an otherwise crap year, ditto the two Sweet 16s)

Good post.

Not true, at least that's not what came directly from the horse's mouth.

When Director of Athletics John Wildhack created a list of potential future head coaches, he reached the same conclusion Autry was ready.

Wildhack said, Autry has been exposed to every aspect of the sport, and that uniquely prepares him for the job. “Adrian earned this,” Wildhack said Friday. “Adrian’s not here because he’s an alum, because he played here, because he’s an associate coach here. He’s here because I believe he’s the best candidate to lead this program and sustain the success that coach Boeheim has established over 47 years.”

.443 FG%
.348 3FG%
.500 FT%

Thank you Eddie. It's on to Youngstown St. We win by two in the JMA I don't think I'll watch this year.

Line 'em up 500 3's an 500 FT's every day until it's just muscle memory. UGH!

I’m ready to watch old game replays two games in this year. Hurts the heart to watch what this program is right now. Always will support them but this is barely an NIT team right now. That goes for on the court and on the staff. Hope things turn around and this post looks foolish but I’m just not seeing it.

That is PR speak

Perhaps. However, he said what he said (which he didn't have to use those precise words he chose) and, therefore, placed his own credibility on the line with his first major hire (revenue sports) of his career as an AD.

100 percent. People don’t realize how much better the ACC is than the big east. Cuse isn’t playing DePaul anymore. And it’s not apples to apples when playing Colgate, but I laugh when people compare Cuse to Duke and Kentucky. I also think people forget how bad this team has been for a decade. A literal decade.

As far as this game goes, it’s simple it’s about toughness and defense. They better fix it or they will have some serious problems. This team needs to wake up and play how they are capable
