Colorado fires Karl Dorrell / hires Deion Sanders

In all seriousness what is Colorado's NIL scene like? Are these kids going for bags or just to play for Deon?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just to play for Sanders

From the articles I’ve read, it doesn’t appear Sanders is big on NIL/collectives outside of its intended use to provide athletes some modest income while playing football

Here is an example with excerpts from an interview with Sanders in February

Thanks for that info! Sounds like we need to go get ourselves a Prime Time.

Look, Lincoln Reilly did the same thing at USC and no one said anything…..

Deion does it at Colorado and everyone melts down

This team was one of the worst teams….there is a reason why Deion is purging

And he’s going to get a MASSIVE haul from the portal, like Reilly who took in 26 transfers

True but Riley talked about turning over the roster on Colin Cowherd in a subtle manner.

Nothing Prime does is subtle, its sound bites, its cameras following him everywhere for social media, etc.

Your right on Riley taking 26 transfers his first offseason. Sanders is looking at roughly 45-50, I think.

Im curious to see how it plays out, I predict 1 win to 4 or 5 wins first year.

Which would mean what's he's doing worked...since I believe they only won 1 games this past season.

What kind of revisionist history is this?

People were concerned with his “removal” of players and with poaching players from his old school. It was a conversation across sports radio for weeks

Definitely were concerned about him poaching players from Oklahoma

But show me somewhere people were concerned about him running off players and rebuilding his roster

This really isn’t that uncommon when a new coach comes in. The big difference here is that Deion draws a lot of attention…

IIRC, you used to be able to get a free transfer if a new coach came in….

It’s also important to note that most of these kids stayed until the end the spring session, which tells me they were interested to see how they fit etc

USC had talent on the team but under achieved. Plus we dont know which kids left by choice. There might be a handful of kids that didn't prefer his type of coaching. I wouldn't expect anything different from Prime. He's been like this since his freshman year at FSU. He is going to be flashy. He will say what most coaches think but won't say. Prime's style is not for everyone. He's has everyone talking. I think its great for college ball because its different from the typical discussions people have.

Getting a lot of attention also because the kids he's getting looks like him. He understands the culture and that can be intimidating to some.

Actually they are. Army cut my friend's son just last spring. Literally told him "you've been cut from the team". He could keep his schollie, plus see the link in the post above yours.
I heard that the academies do that in all sports. Freshman year is essentially a try out year. I spoke with a lady who's son was a wrestler for army and he was waiting to find out if he made the team.

The question is, what is Deion's NIL scene like? He probably has national NIL connections no other coach has that will follow him whereever he goes.

Word is Colorado is not big on NIL. Coach Prime does not want to "buy players".

When he was at his former gig didn't one of his players have a million dollar NIL deal?

No, that was a false accusation made by Nick Saban. Kids want to play for Deion and they want to win in a culture like that. The days of going down to Junction behind closed doors and slave away for the system are over. Deion offers something completely different and you do not need a football factory pedigree to make it work.

The more success Deion has the more the game will need to evolve. I hope HCDB is watching and learning.

BTW, just looking at ON3.com transfer portal site. You know how many of the 43 Colorado players in the portal have found a home? ZERO. You know how many of the 43 Colorado players in the portal are getting Power 5 interest? TWO. I think that says volumes on the talent level Colorado had. Oh, and Colorado has brought in a player from UCLA, FSU and Tennessee in the last 2 days.

Learn what though. Deion’s style is his alone.

Yeah though through Barstool, which was going to pay him that regardless of where he went.

They were a terrible P5 team, so you’d expect some of this. But do you know what’s not helping these kids find new homes?

Deion not allowing any practice cut ups to go to the kids to send to potential destinations. That’s BS.

Deion can sell a dream and it appears he can coach, or at least assemble a coaching staff. I think he’ll be successful. But he could do better here.

His success is Deion specific. There really isn't anything for anyone to learn from him unless they were one of the best at their position to play the game while being a master self marketer before they were a pro.

Transparency and social media engagement. It’s not the 90s anymore and Gen Z is into social media and building their brand. Fans also want the inside look at what’s going on behind the scenes. That drives eyeballs and money. Deion is transformative but it’s not like you cannot apply much of what he does to your own team.

I disagree. Deion’s fame opens a lot of doors, but his style and marketing can be adopted by literally anyone. Just need to be selling something people want to buy. What is Babers selling? No one knows because there’s no transparency or engagement.

You have to sell what others want to buy. Deion's selling bravado. A commodity he built up for decades before he became a coach and one very few can replicate.
