I've read with interest several recent comments about the chat room being a "terrible place" because of posts by those experiencing a meltdown or worse. Each chat room I have participated in this year has been pretty civilized, including the one when we were struggling (to say the least) with Miami last Saturday. Indeed, with the exception of one poster (who was quickly evicted and banned), it was actually an interesting and thoughtful discussion.

I realize the difference in tone may be due to the presence of a moderator (in last Saturday's game, me) who will not tolerate posts such as "CJ Fair is full of crap" (the line that got said poster banished).

Unfortunately there cannot always be a moderator there because some times we are all at the game. But I do promise you that rooms with a moderator present can be a very interesting and rewarding way to watch a game with serious SU fans.

PS, I plan to be in the chat room tonight

Honestly its not as bad as it used to get. A few years ago things would spiral quickly especially the 2011 season when we lost what was it 4 or 5 straight games. I think those posters that are easily offended need to realize that when Syracuse is down 8 to a team like Miami and theres 11 min left in the second half its not going to be Christmas morning in there. Ive seen a lot of frustration but no one really go to overboard. If possible a moderator or someone who could be given the abilities of a moderator for chat purposes if everyone is busy is always a big help in cleaning the place up.

I wasn't in the Miami or Villanova games, but for the most part I think it's been better than the last couple years. For me, part of that might just be knowing certain posters better and realizing that they're just venting as opposed to being complete jerks.

A couple years ago it was awful with people making personal attacks on players. And that was in the midst of a one loss regular season.

I have been working late and often follow the games on line and lurk in the chat room. I have found it very useful, as the gamecast often lags. The score is updated frequently in the chat room and many members give a little play by play. There is alot of fan reaction, but nothing that seemed out of control. I am a big fan of the chat room and I am glad we have one for the games.

Agreed especially on your second paragraph/point. Some posters just need a vent I know I do sometimes and you can tell some guys like Iommi can really get frustrated when Syracuse is not playing well. I dont use the chat for every game but its nice to go in there and have someone who can feel your pain or enjoy the win with you, Last Saturday it was classic how Iommi called the exact Miami possesion and deep three the second Syracuse squandered a chance to take the lead late in the second half. Its a comforting feeling when others know the classic Syracuse moments each game.

The problem with the chat room is we get down 5-0 and the game is over, we suck and they need to fire JB.

hey i like the chat room. i myself can't usually multitask and follow a whole game there but i like to check in at halftime and post game and feel out the crowd. i do also remember the days when some brave soul would try and attempt to post live scores for us out of towners without any coverage. the thing i always keep in mind is that chat talk is most often unfiltered rants uttered in the heat of battle. or someone looking for a realtor.

I like it now! There was only one point last year when other team's trolls got in there and moderators couldn't get in there due to being at the game. Even when we are down, sure some people are going to panic, vent, what have you. But that's ok, we tend to drown them out charging up the LGO vibe.
Now
LGO!

I tried it once, we didn't start the game off well and posters were upset so I left. That plus now I keep track of 2 other places during games and that's more than enough.

No those days are pretty much long over. People do get frustrated for sure but I havent heard one fire JB comment this year or at least not yet. I think people realize this team can comeback so there is a little less panic when we get down then before. I would recommend you give it another shot just keep in mind that a lot of posters live and die with Syracuse athletics and for many of them this is there only place to vent when things start going South. All that being said its no where near as bad as it used to be.

Honestly, before this post, I never knew you existed.

Well you're on his ignore list, so there!

Right and I'm all for having a place for them to vent I just don't feel like reading it. It could be the greatest thing in the world but its not a fit for me although I' glad its there for those that participate and I'd not want to tell them how to participate so long as they aren't you going ape sheet and needing to be banned.

It seems like you understand me.
