Has anybody seen any practices or had any reports on how he is looking in practices? Coaches obviously made the right call with the red shirt..just wanted to see if anyone had heard any news on how he has looked.

I've heard and read that he is very upbeat ... that his defense is really improving and he can shoot the eye out of a dime.

He put on a few pounds and is working nights as a super hero.

I've only heard great things about him in practice but I can say we usually get to the Dome early and during pre-warmups when the kids are just shooting around, he has one of the best, if not best, looking shots I have seen since following SU basketball for 40+ years. The kid just doesn't miss. Of course it is not the same as when you have a defense in front of you, but his form and shot are sweet. Plus he is a built kid kind of how Triche is built. Strong upper body.

All of which is why I said last year that he was the real key to the recruiting class. That shooting form is straight from the textbook, and great shooters are killers on the court.

"Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse."

I have high hopes for Cooney. I think he could our be next great program guy. Stays 3-4 years and is All-Conference during his time here.

I am as excited about Cooney's future as I am about any other player or recruit we have. The thing is, he isn't just a shooter who pitches a tent at the arc ... he is an exceptional athlete, deceptively strong, has great ball handling skills, and cagey defense. Things I'm looking forward to:

- The patented JB double screen to Cooney for a wide open 3 (Rautins' favorite play).
- Transition offense with Cooney & his complementary guard that is more spread than just the crashing to the basket we see now, forcing any last defender to make tougher decisions.
- Dramatically more pressure on opposing defenses to defend the perimeter, opening up the paint for DC2/Xmas/Grant/Noel(?) to do work.
- "COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONEY" chants after every tre

Hence why being #1 right now for a while is even sweeter

Personally I don't feel IMO that Noel is in our future ... he is a one and done if he its a college floor at all and that fits so much better with the Calapari philosophy. I'd focus more on Beejay and Goodluck

i think this kid is gonna be a great player, in normal years no way he gets red shirted, we just have an insanely deep bench

PG position is loaded this year and next. Even if Waiters leaves.

Rumor has it that Cooney shoots as well as JohnSyracuse makes posts.
I heard that if you strike Trevor Cooney down, he will only come back more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

An MCW/Cooney backcourt will be a thing of beauty. MCW will be our next great point guard and Cooney our next great shooting guard. Combine them with a center who has post moves...

I havent been as excited about the potential of a player as I have with MCW in a long time. I freakin love that kid.

i hope lil' gerry can get cooney to follow his strict conditioning regimen. spinner or jig???

MCW
Cooney
CJ
Grant
Coleman

... the ACC is going to hate us, and I will love them for it.

That's an awfully small front court, but talented. Is Grant actually a PF? He seems like a rail thin tweener with a solid mid range game from what I've heard.
