Seems like a plausible scenario . It is always very advantages to have assistant coaches with previous head coaching experience .
As of now he just has an interim status .No, they already have one.
Yes that is what I meant . I should have worded the title better.I assume Couscous means starting in fall 2017. They have an interim DC for now who will more than likely carry out 2016.
That is exactly my thinking . Practically an entire defense of 4 star athletes .Would be interesting. What would a Shafer D look like with ND talent? How much say would he have hiring assts?

Well , I can understand Syracuse's defense having huge problems stopping teams , the talent is just not there . But UND , they are stocked everywhere with 4 stars and that defense was atrocious . They should of chanted something worse .You think he wants that headache?
80,000 people just chanted Fire VanGorder for an extended period of time.
Whenever he gets back into coaching, I think he wants to go where it's a good fit and he likes working with the other coaches. That may not be ND, who knows? I don't think money is his highest priority. I hope he goes somewhere where he can be successful and stays a long time. You think he wants that headache?

HE doesn't strike me as a guy who wants to work for a raving lunatic on thin ice.
Yes, he learned a lot when he took the job as the DC of Michigan under Rich Rod. His next job will be as a DC under someone he has worked with before, or I could see him taking a job as a HC at a smaller school.Good luck to Scott Shafer in his future endeavors. He was a good man just not a head coach. He could become a P5 level defensive coordinator. I personally don't like his style of defense but too each their own. I doubt Brian Kelly will put his job security on the line with Scott Shafer next year.
I wouldn't rule him out at becoming an actual assistant at Pitt if a spot on the staff opens up.
Would you want to work for Kelly?
To make a little under $1 million per year? Yeah, I could get yelled at for that.
I think his psychosis is different than Kelly's. He's more like your crazy buddy that jumps off the roof of the house into the pool kinda crazy. He has worked for a raving lunatic before...Jim Harbaugh. Granted Jim's job wasn't on the line but I think Scott can work for a raving lunatic.

Also a lunatic on the way up as opposed to maybe on the way out.
