Coyle leaving for Minnesota AD job

Interesting
I thought so. I'm not trying to pile on here. I just thought it was interesting. At the time, there was a huge rain delay going on in the men's game. We didn't know if this ACC Championship game was going to be moved, called, or whatever. Undoubtedly, at the site, there was conversation and negotiation going on back and forth with Duke, SU, the ACC, the host school, ESPN, etc. I just thought it was really weird that all of that is going on without any input or concern whatsoever from the head of the SU athletic department. From the looks of it, he didn't even know what was going on down in Georgia.

Was he expecting to walk into a fully functioning department so he could just sit around?

Those you list are challenges by which greatness is ultimately measured.

Sounds like quite the opportunity for a new AD.

I said the same thing. Everything that was told to me I said "Wasn't that part of the job"? We already knew there were a number of issues in the AD. That's why TGD was let go and we hired a new guy. Guess it was more than he expected or wanted to handle. Very disappointed cause I really liked the guy. Talked to him a couple times and he seemed down to earth. Had me fooled.

Good bye! Way to detach but then never felt like he was attached to anything about SU. Just like a snot nose kid that takes the ball and goes home when he doesn't get his way. Too effete for us eastern "snobs".

It's crazy to me that there was no inkling of this coming down the line, our Bball and FBall coaches didn't even know... When I read the pop up update from the Score app on my phone about Coyle leaving, it took me a second to even comprehend what I was reading. Just wow.

We now hit the re-set button on everything!! EVERYTHING

This is a bad day

Oh lord.

The department as a whole has had unprecedented success this year. The guy made the necessary change in football and brought in a disruptive technology to the ACC in a perfect environment for it. Highest revenues (therefore resources) that the department has ever had. SU was 33rd in total revenue in 2014, 5th in the ACC. SU as a brand is strong and national.

The next guy is going to be walking into a great situation, at least on the performance and personnel side. The heavy lifting is on the spending side and the stadium, but those aren't insurmountable.

Sounds like his m.o.

Two comments:

1. Leaving a position "for family reasons" or "to spend more time with family" is a widely-used euphemism. I think it is highly likely there is another reason behind Coyle's decision.

2. Unless the announcement was leaked or mishandled, I think it's unprofessional not to provide an advance, quarantined announcement to the people who report to you, if even only by a few hours before it is made public. For JB and Babers to be blindsided by this is inexcusable. How would Coyle feel if a member of the press broke the news to him that JB was retiring?

well that's exactly how it will happen for JB doesn't give a fluck.

it may come from the Chancellor to the AD for JB will just step right over his 'supposed boss'.

looks to me that coyle left for a place where he will ultimately have more of a say in everything.

I bet he still has a lot of friends in high places at minny and took the low road here for the easy job there.

imo: hes a whimp who wants to feel safe in his job and not asked to actually do a job.

him.

good bye.

I just hope too messed up to fix doesn't include the renovation of the Dome. If all we're getting is a roof replacement we might as well send out inquiries to the Patriot League and Colonial Atletic Association right now.

From what I hear he may have not been part of those discussions.

Over the years JB has demonstrated too much respect/loyalty towards his coaches and players to ever do this to them. After Julie and his family, I think they will be the next to know when the time comes. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is how he handled his previous medical leave-of-absence.

Definitely bad implications for those of us who wanted the dome renovation to be a big splash. Penny pinching has its time and place Kent. :bang:
